Kira Got Mail

Just had to share this... there was a Christmas card waiting for Kira in our mailbox today. It's from her former owner's Mother. This wonderful woman, who is very involved with Golden Rescue, realized that her son was neglecting Kira (Kira was tied outside and not permitted indoors :( )

Anyway, this woman adored Kira. She visited her all the time, and was probably the only source of love and affection my goofy girl had. Being so involved with rescue, this woman felt shame and anger at the way her son was keeping Kira.

She finally convinced him, that the right thing to do was to surrender her to rescue. It's been almost 2 years now. She still loves her and misses her. She sent Kira a card, and asked for a picture.

I am touched beyond words.

I'm late replying but I saw it the other day and thought about it a couple of times since. That woman sounds like a gem, Kira had a guardian angel in her.

What a nice thing to do.

She really is Kira's guardian angel, and she really is a gem. It was a very difficult situation for her. She's been involved with Golden Rescue for years, and the fact that her own child would neglect a dog so badly was both heartbreaking and humiliating for her. She stepped in because she couldn't bear watching Kira neglected. I thank God that she did. We've talked at length about this many times and she's still having a tough time getting past it.

After receiving the card, Kira and I ( ;) )emailed her and updated her on Kira's doings the past few months. We mentioned that not only had Kira had been "Miss June" in the 2002 Newfoundland Rescue calendar, but that her picture had been chosen as the winner of the photo contest.

I heard back almost immediately, and a game of phone tag began. The woman wanted to get a couple of copies of the calendar. I contacted Gina, and they have no more in stock. But, Kira's picture is going to be on one of the covers of the calendar, so I emailed the link to Kira's "Grandma" and she was tickled. I am also going to scan my calendar, and send her that file!

It is so nice that this story has such a wonderful ending for Kira thanks to you, Annie, and her former owner's mother. How nice that you both stay in touch! It is amazing to me too that the woman's son would not treat an animal properly after having such a caring mother. Luckily everything worked out.

It certainly would have been very awful for Kira's former owner's Mum to see her child treating Kira like that. It's so good she stepped in!
