Keeping her cool

Hello, I am looking for some advice on how to keep my girl cool this summer. I live in Wisconsin and our simmers get very hot. I am working on getting my girl to swim in the nearby creek, am getting a cooling vest for her, she ate her cooling mat lol, im getting a used treadmill for her, and am well versed in signs/symptoms of heat exhaustion and what to do in an emergency situation. Im just wondering if theres any other products im unaware of or if theres anything else I can do for her to keep her comfortable besides a ton of indokr activities and AC...ive heard that shaving them is actually worse, and honestly i would never want to shave her beautiful coat...let me know your thoughts please :)

Just walk in the early morning and late evening. I don't actually see any reason you need a treadmill. :) Make sure she has access to water. A fan is our best tool. We just have a plug in fan on the floor that she can lay in front of day and night.

Play indoors.

You can also tunnel out the fur on her belly - so clip a patch down the center on her belly.

My girl gets very lazy in the summer, and is perfectly happy not doing much. We have a basement with a cement floor where I do my workouts. Kanga is extremely happy hanging out down there on the cool cement. I will second the early morning walk and cutting the hair on the belly. That really seems to help.

NEVER shave. Comb out the undercoat. That is what makes them really hot. Tunnel out the belly and let her stay in the AC during the day. Walk early morning or late evening. Lots of swimming!

Thanks for all of your responses. I will make sure to walk her at specific times of day...but I cant imagine her getting lazy at all lol even in the summer heat. She is one of the most high energy Newfies I have ever come across! I will tunnel out the belly, too! I comb out every inch of her daily already. Its simple upkeep if i do it everyday and have watched a lot of youtube videos to know how to do it properly without damaging her coat. Sorry if it seems like my posts are silly or common sense material, but ive never dont any of this before and want to make sure im doing it all correctly. :)

Your questions are not silly! Ask anything. You're doing great.

As far as getting lazy, I bet you'll be surprised. Ruby is 2. She was 15 months when we got her last summer. She's nuts. Has soooo much energy. But even now she's already slowing down a lot during the day and its only in the 70's. She may not be lazy, but she will definitely slow down.

Haha, I really could use a little bit of a break from her energy...I dont want to wish the time away, of course. And I was foolish to think she would be lazy right off the bat! But its hard to keep up with her sometimes. I limit her walking to 25 minutes twice a day (I read 5 minutes per month old they are to not over work them). The rest of the time is spent training, giving her lots of mental excercise, etc. But boy, I sure wish they could figure out how to bottle that kind of energy so I could get some!

I also have high energy newfs too so dont be too worried.
We have large fans here and the belly tunneling works great.

Cooling coats are a must here.

Never be afraid to ask questions its how we all learnt
