Kanela do you visit the Newf-L? There was a post that a Newf was found in pretty bad shape and they were looking for someone who might go check her out. There are not sure if she is purebred or not. She is at Fallon Animal Control
Shelter in Fallon, Nevada. Are you anywhere near there? They were requesting help. If you are not on the Newf-L let mw know and if you can check into it I'll try to get more details to you.

I am subscribed to Newf-L but after receiving the first batch of mailings, I never got any more. *scratching head*


Fallon is about 8 1/2 hours from me but fortunately, we have a wonderful Newf Rescue right here in Las Vegas headed by Silvia Jones. I'll contact her right away.

Just got off the phone with Fallon Animal Control and the officer there told me they do indeed have a Newfoundland, female, in pretty ragged shape that was found wandering the streets.
Anyway, the officer told me a woman in...Susanville, I think he said?...from Newf Rescue called to say she will be picking up that poor girl. She did tell him that if for some reason she is unable to do so, she will call. He hasn't heard from her and this was yesterday when they last spoke.

I emailed Silvia Jones of the Las Vegas Newf Rescue and alerted her to the situation in case the woman from Susanville is unable to pick up the dog.

Thank you so much for letting me know about this. I could not bear it if anything happened to that Newfy when I could've done something to prevent it.

PLEASE keep us posted!! I got tears in my eyes when I read this. It makes me furious how STUPID people can be about pets and for dogs such as newfs who LOVE to be with people, well it just hurts my heart.

If I could, I would take in any and all abandoned newfs. Just to make them feel loved. I wish everyone would be as responsible as we are about their pets.

If you don't want them, DON'T get them. If your not a breeder, get them FIXED. If you have them and HAVE to get rid of them, find them another loving home.

Need I go on?

Kanela: I've sent a copy of the post to you. As Shawn said it is a very sad situation. Apparently the Newf was found wandering and was in quite a mess on Feb/15. After trying to clean her up they found that she was "skin and bone" under her matted fur.

I am so angered by this. Unfortunatly, I have not been getting my messages from Newf-L as of today. There may be an update on her and I am unable to get it. Shawn or Shari, are you on the Newf-L? Can you update us if you find anything out through the list? Or if anyone else is, could you let us know?

Carrie, thank you so much for the email. I wrote Mike back and thanked him for contacting the right people about that poor little girl.

I haven't heard from Silvia Jones yet so I called the Fallon Shelter once again and left my name and number with instructions to call me FIRST THING if that other rescue lady doesn't show up. I'll make the drive and get that girl myself if I have to.

It is just so...BARBARIC...what people will do to a gentle soul.


I'd better not say anymore for now. I'll start talking about bringing back public hangings or something.

Hi Carrie... as of yesterday, I stopped getting Newf-L posts as well. I have tried a number of things, and finally tonight I e-mail GAD to ask him if he could help. I need my Newf Mail!
I'll let you know if I learn anything about it.

I was so sad/angered to hear about this poor newf! It sounds like she is the right hands now and will soon find a more permanent loving home. She deserves it! Keep us posted. I'm still keeping my finfers crossed for the newf Jeannie was talking about last week she was trying to rescue from the backyard breeder.

I haven't heard anything from Newf Rescue so I'm going to call the Fallon Animal Shelter tomorrow morning and see if I can't find out if that female was picked up and by who.

Sadly, this particular shelter only gives it's occupants 5 days before...well, you know.
Time is of the essence and if nothing has been done, I'm calling in sick from work, gassing up the truck and getting her out of there.

I'll keep you guys posted!
