Jake's surgery

Well Jake got through his surgery ok today. He is at home resting comfortably on a big blankie in front of the fireplace, he loves it there. So far he has gotten lots of rest, and he just had a little to eat for me, so that makes me feel good. His spirits are good, thumping his tail. Apparently the tumour did seem to be only in the skin, not other tissue, so that is a good sign. It was bigger than it looked, and he required 10 stitches. I think the hardest part of this for Jake is that he is going to have to wear a cone tonight, because I know he'll be trying to pull his stitches out. So so far so good.

I'm so glad things are looking up for you guys. And seizure free feels so good, doesn't it. Glad that's working out. Prayers coming from us here.

Jake's pretty ashamed about his cone-head, but he never complains...just looks sad. Although he is getting better at not hitting as much stuff, he even managed to get into his dog house, had to help him get out tho. :D He really enjoys it though when we take the cone off and give him a supervised break. Jake never complains, he is quite the dog. (L)

Very happy to hear the good, health-on-the-way news..and the cone..well, hoping it can go away soon.
HB HATED hers..and so I finally gave up..and watched her. Tidied up her spaying stitches line..but never tried to remove. I think that most dogs will prob. try to dislodge them. Hugs all around. ina n HB

I think I'm pretty lucky with Jake and his cone because he really is doing well with it, he has gotten used to it really quickly. Ben on the other hand, I just know he will absolutely hate it...I am really hoping that he won't require a cone when he has his surgery. Cross my fingers.

I am glad to hear that Jake is doing so well.... and that his surgery went well. I can empathize with you about the cone... I remember when Thor had to wear one, and he was miserable... and we felt so bad for him. Luckily time passed quickly and it was a very happy day when it came off for good!

Good to hear that Jake is doing well! Soon he'll be all healed up and back to himself.

Someone told me an alternative to an e-collar that I think would work. Haven't tried it myself, but it sounds feasible. Make them a cardboard "neck brace" and duct tape it shut. There's no huge thing sticking out knocking things over, they can still lie down comfortably, drink, everything. There's just enough there to keep them from turning their head all the way to get to the stitches.
