It's better to be pissed off then pissed on (non newf)(long)

I love hearing everyone's stories about their naughty pups. They are too funny. Some of them really make my day. So now it is my turn to share. Now take in consideration that I cringe a little with embarressment when I tell this story. I can not believe this dog who I have worked so hard with did this to me. And of course this is about my promblem child Jixer. Ohh Jixer. Well if you haven't already guessed it. He is peeing on me. Yep you read that right peeing on me. :shocker: Now that the horror of that thought has set in you can laugh. :!rolling: It's not funny I know it is horrible behavior. And the issues he has behind that is no laughing matter. But besides talking to my vet, multiple trainers, researching, and getting ready to enroll him in doggy boot camp (dog classes or private at home training), and working with him at home in the end I just have to laugh. It all started when we had a friends dog over at the house for a play date and a swim at the river. Now mind you he has been around this dog multiple times. Even at the house. This dog in nuetured. While the dog was still here he peed on my foot at the door when I was letting him outside. I just assumes he really had to go got excited and leaked a little. He forgets he has to pee sometimes. I know that sounds absured but this is the same dog that will be peeing see a butterfly take off running after it while still peeing. He does not lift his leg yet. So I wiped my foot off washed the door mat and went about the day. After the friend and his dog left. My boyfriend and I went to Pet Smart later that evening with out Busa and Jixer. I pet another dog. Big mistake. We came home my boyfriend let him out to pee. When he came inside he greeted me like normal, smelled me, leaned againist me and peed on my shin. That little SOB peed on me! On purpose! Words can not describe how upset I was. I called the vet the next day just to make sure he didn't need to be seen for a UTI or some other medical reason. They said nope he was just was marking his territory. He did not like the smell of another dog on his mommy. With the other dog over it could of thrown off his sense of security in the pack. Makes sense to me he had bad speration anxiety when we first got him but has come a LONG way since then. 2 months went by with no more incidents. I just assumed with him getting older (he is almost 8 months) and hormones kicking in, another dog on his turf, and him being insure to begin with was just to much for him to handle. Well he has done it 2 more times. But only when he smells another dog on me. But not everytime he smells a dog on me will he do it. And here is the kicker. He only has peed on me. Not my boyfriend or other guests. Thank god. I am the one who has trained him, walks him and feeds him. I am home with him all day. At first I thought it was an insecurity issue. Then I thought domanice issue. I have had trainers tell me its a domanince issue and others say its an insecurity issue. So I am not sure. That's why I haven't decided on what trainer to take him too. I would love to hear everyones two cents. I have done kennel only at night. No more sleeping with Busa out in the bedroom. No on the sofa or bed with me. I try to stick to a strict routine during the day. Increased excersise. Been doing more one on one training and lease walking. Basically being on his butt 24/7 and not letting him get away with squat and lots of treats when good. Moral of the story is any time you are mad just remember it is better to be pissed off then be pissed on. Trust me. Lol

Oh my! I feel for you. It sounds like you are doing things right as far as training and using "nothing in life is free" ideas. It is possible that what are you seeing is a combination of insecurity and dominance behavior too. He's getting to that brain goes to mush age that they all do. Besides being upset, what are you doing to let him know this is not acceptable when it happens? You may have to use a different "correction" before he gets the idea. Since he's only doing it on you, the correction would usually have to come from you to be most effective. I know it's not fun to take the time to enforce that you don't allow this when you're wet and smell like pee, but it must be done right away. If something isn't working to get the message across, try something else. My favorite "correction" with young ones is a sit or down stay for a few minutes. I have had some that didn't work with and had to come up with new ideas. Not sure this will help, but hope you find an answer soon!

I've been in your shoes Brittany. By the way, I'm sorry I called him Jinx in an earlier post. Chumley did this to me several times as well as to other people at the dog park. I believe it began around 8 mo. as well. Then the leg lifting and marking became almost obsessive. I was able to stop the behavior when I was in the pet store by telling him, "no marking" and lifting his nose away from the object/scent. Believe me, he quickly understood what no marking meant, but occasionally tested me to see if I was paying attention. I just made sure I was not talking and always paying attention to his efforts to sneak one in.
As far as the urinating on me/people...it just kinda' stopped. I suppose this was a time when we were becoming very active in training classes, so he must have just gotten smarter about his behaviors.
Well, I can't wait to meet you, bf, Busa, and Jixer next week!

It's a dominance issue, and needs to be nipped in the bud! Just my 2 cents....we are still trying to make it this weekend, hopes of meeting you guys!

Its ok that you called him jinx. With our dogs having such unique names they have been called everything under the sun. I call him kitty sometimes because he acts more like a cat then a dog half the time and I think its funny to yell here kitty kitty and have a big dog come running. Lol you have no idea how relieved it makes me to hear your dog had similar issues. Thank you.

I agree with you on the dominance issue. Well I think It is 90% domaniance and 10% insecurity. Either way nipped in the bud sounds about right! I really hope you guys can make it.

This past Saturday night it was cold and rainy and a little Jack Russell mix was shivering outside the general store. He'd been there a few hours according to the clerk. So I brought him home with me until we could locate the dog officer...while he was here Traveler came over and peed on ME! Guess he was telling the new guy "she's MINE!" I was Not Amused...Traveler has never done that before, although I do have to watch him when he tries to mark in the house under normal occasions. LOL

You have to watch him and when he gets close and in position, correct him with a sharp NO. He has to learn thesis to acceptable behavior. I had a friend who's newf did this to several of us at the dog park. The next time we got together, we wore our rubber boots.
