Is your newf castrated?

Cole and Frankie are not neutered, since Cole shows and we hope Frankie will too. Can't neuter a dog shown in Conformation in the AKC.

Every other dog in this house is altered..either spayed or neutered.

One of the Goldens was altered young(he wasn't part of our family then) and I suspect so were Addie and Chance (the Newfs we got as adults). The main differences in altered and unaltered I see are quality of coat and easier weight gain. No difference in temperament.

I have never neutered or spayed ours young, because I feel it's important for them to mature, at the very least, before altering them. Some of ours weren't altered until 4-5 years of age.

If two boys can live in a house peacefully and not run off if there's a female in heat somewhere nearby, I'd leave them intact.

Tucker is 7months old in a few days and it's funny to see him turning into a BIG BOY dog. He sort of leans when he pees, no lifting legs yet. It's so different to give tummy rubs from having only girls to a boy. His lipstick is always stiking out.

My Newfs have always been show dogs. My current Newf completely quit growing at age 2; all females are bigger than him. He's a great family-sized boy, but will not score in the breed ring, due to size only. So I convinced my breeder to allow us to have him neutered last summer, as we spend almost each and every day in an off leash park. Life HAS DEFINATELY improved since the neutring at 4.5 years old. Much less aggression from other dogs (BossMan has always appeared mellow), but there is a Huge difference these days. I've never bred a Newf and have kept a tight rein on my boys so we didn't have any accidents, but it's a real issue if you go to off leash parks. This is my first Newf that I've taken to this type of environment, and I'm so, so glad he's neutered now. Again, he wasn't aggresive, but other dogs seemed to sense his testosterone, and they'd come up body slamming and acting like jerks to get him to respond. Whatever. So they aren't 'jerks'....they're dogs, doing what dogs do well and must do. Cut some slack, humans....
