Hi, I was wondering if anyone on Newf Net is from the Boston area? We are going to be leaving for Worcester next Friday. I was wondering if there are any good spots for a newf to cool down and horse around after putting in a hard days work? Ideas for can't miss People spots are good too:)
I am hoping it isn't in the 90's while we are there! I appreciate any info:)

Worcester or Boston? How funny I'll be in Boston at that time too (sans newf...he's already pouting). Unfortunately, the Red Sox will not be there until the following Friday.

Maine is a nice newfy hang-out, and only a couple of hours north on 95. (They're all small states in New England, right?) In fact, I've recently had eye witness reports of a couple ole newfs who can be seen occassionally on the Kennebunkport Beach. Instant friends. (We newfy families look out for one another you know. What's a mere 3,000 miles when chatting newf?) Stick near the Atlantic (which worcester is not) and you will not have as many mosquitos and the temperatures will be more reasonable. And the lobster...mmm.

I'm not so good with the Worcester area. New Hampshire, that's a different story...just north one hour. There are some gorgeous lakes around Peterborough & Hancock, NH (1.5-2 hrs north of Worcester) Lake Nubanusit (hidden gem) a clean and deep granite lined beauty. Don't tell my grandfather I mentioned it. The lakes region in NH is well worth the trip...I mean, if you're from South Dakota...what's the difference, NH, Maine, VT...it's all near by. There's the classic Winnepesaukee or the more managable delight of Squam lake (famous for being the location for On Golden Pond).

Whatever you choose, you'll have fun. And if your newf is like our newf...standing in front of the grocery store can be the most exciting thing in the world...bring on the love.

Have a great trip. I'm envious...cause it sounds like you probably aren't flying? My best regards to I-90. Wave at Beloit, WI on the way by.

Oh, here are more newfy people to chat up...www.blackpawstudio.com they are in Amherst, NH. 50 miles north of Boston. They have a cadre of newfs...and I imagine could direct you toward goofy newfy fun. (There's Baboosic Lake just in their back yard for example.)

Would those be Veterinarian rotations at Tufts in Worcester...or more of the human persuasion?

Hi Jenny, Duncan AND Truman, thanks for the great info, I wish we had all of the days to just take in the beautiful surrounding New England states! One of my friends and classmates is coming from Maine and he wants us to buzz on over:) I am doing a Rehab counselor Masters program with a concentration in psychiatric Rehab. I so admire people that dedicate there lives to animals as how we take care of them is a direct reflection on our society as least that is how I see it:) VETS are special folks:)

It's funny that the lake has Baloo's name in it, maybe that's a sign aha. Thank you for all your connections, we are definitely going to check out as many treasures as we can. We aren't flying as we are turning it into a pre 20th wedding anniversary trip:) Besides Baloo feels alot better stretching out in our van then on my feet in the plane:)! We'll take lots of pics!
Thanks again

Hey, Baloo!

I live in Boston...will you be visiting Boston or are you staying out in Worcester? The NCNE water rescue training takes place at the Century Sportsman Club every year, which is in Auburn (close to Worcester), but I'm not sure if they allow dogs there for non NCNE events?

Boston is very, very dog friendly--heck, you can even take your dog on the T, on the ferries and even on buses on Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. We take Byron hiking up in NH and VT all the time and there are often rivers/lakes for him to swim in.

Some beaches allow dogs year round, but some don't allow them during the summer (at least not until after sunset). There is a dog park we frequent at least a few times a week, though, just south of Boston that is on the beach. It's called Stoddard's Neck and I'd say there are at least a dozen Newfoundland owners who are there frequently. It's a very popular dog park in the area because it has water on 3 sides and is very large with lots of trees and other dogs to play with. I'd check it out if you're looking for a place for him to swim and meet lots of great dogs (it's rare I don't see another newf there). The park is on the Hingham/Weymouth border. Have fun!
