Irish Spotted and Conformation

So on another thread the question was raised as to exactly what amounts of black and white constitute an Irish Spotted vs. Landseer...Would those of you with Conformation Show experience comment as to whether an Irish Spotted can be shown and finished successfully?

Sunshine loves Gizzy. He is an Irish Spotted mentioned above. She is an honorary member of the Irish Spotted Newfoundlands society. I love the white tipped tail!

Hi there- and thanks Donna for commenting on our boy Iz!

You bet you can show an Irish Spotted to finish. In fact - if you're going to the National this year - you'll even see one in the Top Twenty!!!! (I'm not proud or anything am I :)!

Seriously, it can be tough, and at times - we had judges who were unsure of the breed standard. Most important, because the dog doesn't look exactly like the others in the ring - you really need to make sure you've got good structure and awesome movement.

Truer words were never spoken. So many of the judges just don't know what to do when they are faced with a beautiful Irish spotted dog in the ring. They CAN finish, but you might need a tough skin at times.

I've owned two Irish spotteds who have won...one was my girl Nova and one is my little boy Fitch, who has actually gotten group placements even!! You go! I'm waiting for my topshelf friend to make another Irish spotted like fitch (who is so irish spotted his name is Drunk As a Skunk as Fitch means 'skunk pelt')

Yes, irish spotteds can be finished. There was a very successful irish spotted special besides the one's mentioned. I just saw him show up in some veterans classes not that long ago.

These are both irish spotteds which are about 2-1/2 weeks in the pics.

My Zeus' original breeder has an Irish Spotted named Solomon who finished and finished EARLY. He still goes to shows, but spends a lot of his time siring litters now...

I've seen Solomon.

Here's the 2 irish spotteds again at 4 weeks.

I will add, the litter is all spokien for. I don't want interpretation as an advertisement.

Oh, and to actually answer the question about the difference between an Irish spotted and a landseer...it's not simply a matter of markings..Irish spotting is a different pattern, dominant to landseer and recessive to black..it's NOT just a dark landseer.
