Inside a Dog

Thunder's first family sent this as part of Christmas. So far I'm about 1/3 of the way and I LOVE IT. Scientific look at how dogs use their senses to communicate coupled with her insights from her long time association with her own dogs. Lots of helpful "reading" your dog hints.

Bears SS sent this book our way this year too!

I'm a good 3/4 of the way through it right now. I found the information about their senses to be fascinating. I wouldn't watch TV either if I could see the black between the still images.

What have you found the most interesting so far?

Well, I finished it last night but intend to go and back re-read. Sort of a cop out but I liked it all. Her emphasis on their smelling ability as a way to interpret the world convinced me to let mine smell more thoroughly on our woods walks. There is one spot where they stop every time and smell and smell and smell. You wouldn't think it would change that much over night but it seems to be equally fascinating every day. Don't think there is anything strange in our woods so why that one spot?

I'm reading it now.. about 3/4 of the way through. I'm finding it all quite fascinating. I have picked up a few things in particular that help me to better understand the way my dogs interact. I guess like anything else.. this book is a case of "walk a mile in their shoes" applied to how dogs experience the world. It is easy for us to forget that they "see" the world quite differently. This book, for me, serves as a reminder to keep that in mind.
