About 1943..a friend of my mothers..was entering a health situation where she could no longer care for her dog Lassie, and asked if I might be allowed to bring her home with us..and have her become part of our family..here at the farm. Permission was given..and I arrived home, about 70 miles from the Oregon Coast, deep in the Willamette Valley farm lands..with my dearest wish..a dog of my own. Since we visited often..her prev. home farm..she knew and welcomed us on every visit..and her first owner..could hear me outside her house..playng with Lassie..on these visits. At the point you see us, I am in awe..of her arrival..still not entirely certain..that she won't be whisked away..due to some 'happenings' beyond my ken. She..is just emerging from puppyhood..and shows her lengthening, lanky side. Lassie was everywhere with me..and there was no trip upon the extended farms..that she was not within sight. She pulled me back to shore..on Summer swimming in the river, she taught me how to hunt mice in the roots of trees,,excavating..ever so swiftly..and then pouncing upon them. She would even bring me..'first mouse'..in case I wished it for my own..but I , even then..thanked her..and let her enjoy them. She grew strong and well muscled over the years..on both wild and commercial foods. She went camping in mountains, slept by the tents in the lake regions, and on the porch at home. She was truely..'Second Mother' to me..during a long and loving life.

I love the avatar, too!! What a great story, and what a blessed life Lassie had!! Absolutely love the "first mouse" image! What a good girl!

Awww...that's a great story to share Ina. Sounds like you've shared many miles and years wandering through the acreage around your home with the companionship of a 4 legger. Can't get much better than that, can it?
