I went off the deep end last week. I bought Wilbur a toy for his birthday. It was a large rope covered with hard plastic, large shapes. I got this one because he chews up those rope toys. Well, I got up in the morning and all that was left of the toy was about an inch! I thought it would "pass". 3 days went by, still seeing the brightly colored plastic in his poop, but he vomited which he never does. In the vomit was a good size piece of the plastic. SOOO I called the vet. They told me as long as it was passing not to worry (they obviously forgot who they were talking to!!!). I was certain he had a blockage from the plastic as I didn't think it should take 3 or 4 days to pass. So, we watched him and his poop.(visions of Brady in my mind with emergency vet, xrays, ultrasounds and surgery). No more vomiting, he acted perfectly normal. It has been over a week now, no more plastic. I can't believe he was able to chew through that plastic. The only thing he can't chew through is those nylar type toys. Those he doesn't bother with. My goodness, how can their bellies take this stuff from sticks, rope toys, plastic toys, shoes, underwear.....I just don't get it.

They do find ways to make us worry, don't they! My first newf, Wicca, swallowed an entire tennis ball.....she brought it up 3 months later! (Boy, did that smell....)
Glad your boy is ok!

Eloise often deposits those little cat toy mice in the yard among her presents! lol I'll notice that there are pink or blue pieces in the piles in the yard. They seem to be aerodynamically shaped so I guess they pass pretty easily, they are always whole when they come out. lol I do try to keep all the cat toys behind baby gates to keep them away from her, but it seems that the cats carry them out possibly hoping to poison the big black beast with their toys! lol

My Koda is like that! I have to keep everything out of his reach! A couple of months ago, he was having a hard time poohing. It was runny and he struggled. I was certain he had a blockage, so off to the vet we went. I had them take an x-ray... certain there was a blockage there. A couple of shadows showed up.
The vet had me put a tablespoon of Metamusal in with his food for a couple of days to see if whatever it was would pass. Sure enough, in a couple of days, a good sized hunk of plastic from a toy passed!
How he manages to get into the things he does....... Eiyiyi! My Dennis the Menace Newfy!!

I've collected Boyds Bears for quite a few years and have always had them sitting on my stair case in the corners of all the stairs on either side. Toby didn't go up the stairs for the longest time, but when he finally did he NEVER touched the bears. He would sniff them all as he was walking up, but never touched them.. Well... I noticed something in his mouth today, upon closer inspection I realized it was a bunch of pretty little silk flowers, so I went investigating.. And yup, there were 3 of my favorite bears, dead on the floor, with their hats ripped off and the flowers that were once nicely attached to the hats, in his mouth.. I don't know how many he actually ate, but it should make for some pretty interesting poop the next couple days.. :(

My first breeder told me of a newf who passed a big wooden spoon! Sadie, our second Newf, was boarding at the breeder's and she called to say that she was pooping balloons. Turned out she had eaten my son's swim cap! We COULD have disinfected it and let him wear it again!!!

LOL Sophie is the pup who is into EVERYTHING - she got into hubby's bathroom and had a whole box of Q-tips and was happily removing the tips when I found her. That afternoon and night after we found some interesting poops with what looked like really big stiff worms. I braved it (cause I didn't know she had EATEN any Q-tips) and picked one of the "worms" and saw/felt it was hard, so not a worm. Still didn't know what it was til it dawned on me right before I fell asleep that it was the Q-tips.
