I didn't know this about pumpkin!

While I was out for a few hours, I left Darcy out of her crate - yes, she's almost 2 years old, but she is a .... pill. She got into a pin cushion and I have no idea how many pins and needles were in it; many were on the floor. So, we don't know if she ate any. The vet said to give her pure pumpkin (two cans every day) for two days - the pumpkin will help anything like pins "slide" right on through the digestive tract. However, the vet also gave me her cell phone number, so who knows how this is going to turn out. Anyone know what to watch for?

Dianne, I didn't know that about pumpkin either. And OMG, Darcy!!! What were you thinking? You are going to give the mama a heart attack.

Dianne, I would think any changes - lethargy, lack of appetite, vomitting, blook in stool.... pretty much anything that seems off would have me running to the vet based on what may have been ingested.

Oh my, Darcy Doodle! I don't know anything about this, but am sending you good thoughts and wishes that it all comes out quickly and safely.

If in doubt at any point, RUSH her to the vet. Faith lost her Wookie to a single toothpick. Take no chances!

Remembering Wookie I think I would take her to the vet to be xrayed to see where the pins are located.
JMHO though.

I agree it would be serious if she ate them. Thank you all! Since the pins and needles were scattered on the floor, I hope she thought again about consuming them and probably pulled each one out for fun. But, I'm not positive. We are watching her very closely and will watch her bowel movements for anything. The vet is 10 minutes away. ANY slight change in her behavior or poops, we are heading to the vet's office and since I have her cell phone number, she could meet us there in minutes. This is when I am so happy I have insurance on her - makes going for things like this so much easier.

Oooo, Diane!! Your business totally but if it were me, I'd get that xray done...
Sheesh Darcy.... You're going to give all of us a coronary, young lady.

That's good, I am very neurotic when it comes to my dogs, so glad you decided to do this even if they don't see anything.

Murphy ate an exacto knife blade when he was maybe 4 months old (found it in a park and I saw it on his tongue but couldn't get it before he swallowed). We fed him pumpkin for a week...straight pumpkin. The blade passed without carving up his intestines, however, we took daily xrays to see where the blade was and so the vet could check him out and make sure there were no signs of perforation. So keep a close eye on her for any blood in stool, fever, signs of pain in her abdomen etc. And keep feedin the pumpkin!

Worrying away here - hope there's nothing to see on the xray! Really glad you're getting it done.

Also headed into my sewing room to put my pincushion under lock and key.

I'm the over cautious type, so would have been at the vets for x-rays. At the very least you'll know one way or the other, whether she has any nasties in her.

Yes I too would be VERY careful

Pumpkin is high in fiber, hence it assists in bulking out and passing of things
