How do you wet a Newf

Any tips on how to wet a Newf down to the skin for a bath.
I find this the hardest part of bathing them and after 20 minutes of showering they are still bone dry under the top coat.

We always use a hose nozzle that has good pressure.

I use the "shower" setting on a nozzle with multiple settings and sort of pull the fur back the wrong way to get the water in there.

Wet the coat, apply the shampoo, work into somewhat of a lather, then add a bit more water and continue to lather. Shampoos usually have some sort of wetting agent in them that helps to wet the coat.

Also, you can buy horse grooming tools that will help you massage the coat, while wetting it...they've got long rubber spikes that get into all that fuzz and rotate it!

All I do and I do this for newfs siberians chows all thick and actually not thick coated breeds. I wet down the dog do a very fast wash (just to cut the oil off the fur) rinse well and then wash and use a zoom groom to help lather. I get down to the skin. No problem.
