The latest issue of Newf Tide had some comments in the "Lest We Forget" column about Elizabeth Powers, owner of Waseeka Kennels.
It states that she went to England in the early 1920's and brought back 5 Newfoundlands, including 1 Landseer, which formed the foundation of her kennel.
It then states, "...they are the basis for ALL {my emphasis} Newfoundlands in this country today."
Can this be true? I know currently there are numerous imports being shown and bred in the US. Are they too descended from the original Waseeka/Harlingen lines?
Is the Newfoundland gene pool truly that shallow?
