HELP Please Remi limping

Remi woke up this morning and is limping on his back left leg. He is not panting, but he is whining and laying around not wanting to get up.

Yesterday my husband walked him in the morning and he played later in the day with my Mom's dog. We always walk him around the neighborhood in the grass by the sidewalks every afternoon, but a new park opened with trails that are paved with rocks on the side of the path instead of dirt. He was real excited to be there so we walked the one mile on the pavement. I have never walked him on pavement so I am so upset with myself for doing this to him.

He is 17 months old this month and has never limped or felt bad in his life so I am freaking out. There is an emergency clinic open today but I am afraid to take him because I don't know what vet with any giant breed experience will be there. Should I go anyway? Should I get some ascriptin, DGP, or anything else and not go until tomorrow. If so what dose?

Please help my as I am in tears with worry because I want to do something for him but I don't know what to do.

He still has an appetite (he eats canidae).
We are sitting in the yard right now and he has stopped whining and he is just snoozing(so not him)He will sit up to bark at the birds and squirrels just won't get up to put weight on back leg. Help I don't know what to do!

did remi maybe twist on it unexpectedly spraining it?
was he running a lot the day of or the day before this happened?
what type of activity in the house did he have that day of or day before?
did he slip on a slippery surface? jump off a bed that is pretty high up?
did he maybe stub a toe real badly?
Riley boarded with me for four days, he went home, a few hours later tina called me and said he was doing the same thing, he is ofa hips elbows patellas.
doesnt mean that he cant be injured, well, that day that he went home, he and lainey were running like maniacs and he crashed his left rear leg and foot into a hard plastic chair that is pretty heavy duty, i cringed when i saw him do that, but, he continued to run.
i told tina to watch him, and, for four days he was pretty sore stiff and did not want to move much, the fifth day he was back to his normal crazy self.
good luck! i hope he is ok!

Does he put the paw on the ground at all? Most dogs with torn ACLs usually will not put the paw on the ground.

If it were me I'd not give him anything to help the pain. If he cannot feel the pain he will not baby the leg and it can cause more injury. Let him rest today. Since it is not life threatening I'd wait to see what tomorrow brings. If he is eating I wouldn't worry.

Don't beat yourself for walking him on pavement. My guess it he most likey pulled something while playing.

When my Mom's GSD came over I had to keep distracting them because as always Remi is so excited when he plays that he plays too rough. I am praying that is all it is. It is just so scarey because he is so active, that's why we try to walk him alot to take the edge off so he won't play so rough. He has been to tons of obedience classes and minds us when we know he is rough playing but he seems to love to play this way.
We never let him play in the house cause he will slip and the stairs have a baby gate at the bottom. He only goes up and down with us cause he tends to want to jump the steps.
Come to think of it he did kind of trip when we were at the park yesterday. But then acted perfectly normal until this morning. Christine should I do anything other than keeping him quiet today?

what i told tina to do was keep him quiet, but, she said he was doing that on his own.
he decided pretty much when he was better. ;)
also
when mine play to hard, my referee suit goes on, and, if necessary i am there and i will use voice or i will put them in a down stay for a few minutes to teach them to be EASY or CAREFUL those two words they know, becouse when they jump on a back i am right there to see it and correct them with voice, than i say careful after when i see them playing nice.
you will have to work on this with him becouse all newf pups are like that, playing very hard and at times, they have to be given the down stay and than let them back up and at it, to teach them the proper way to play, it is a lot of work, but, once you teach them it goes a long way.

Thanks C, I will work harder on that. He gets running so fast sometimes I'm afraid he will run into our trees.
Will keep him quiet today, luckily I have one raw beef bone left.

I'd just keep an eye on him for a few days and if it is a sprain, or strain you'll see him getting better with each day.

Many of ours have pulled a muscle here and there and have been fine in a short period of time (usually within a week).

If, after a few days, you don't see an improvement at all, I'd take him to the Vet.

Hugs to Remi boy!!

Have you checked his paw? Rory was limping once and I found a thorn in her paw after a lot of close searching. If she was on pavement, maybe there is a small rock stuck in between her pads. Otherwise, hopefully she just twisted her leg when playing and will be fine in a few days.

I did check his paws and no rocks but one seems sore so maybe the rocks bruised him (I hope). He has never walked on rocks before.Dumb Mom
He seems better just from resting today and no playing or no walks.

We have had a time keeping him off of it though. He has had a huge raw marrow bone in the house on towels. A marathon grooming session on the floor and now he is chewing on a 30 inch bully stick on the towels in the house. My house smells like blood and bull penis. I hope no company drops by. I don't know how some of you have kept your dogs quiet after surgery or injuries!!

LOL...you don't have to keep him THAT quiet. You can still take him out for walks on a leash, and if he seems lively, that's good, just don't let him go crashing around playing hard outside right now.

You may find that tomorrow morning he's walking much better, even if he starts out gingerly. If it's a sore muscle they'll tend to "walk it out".

If it's a bruised pad...he'll limp a little longer, but shouldn't take long to feel better at all.
