heat cycle - questions/concerns

Hoping someone with more experience in this department can help me out here. Gilly started bleeding on June 17. This Sunday (the 8th) will mark three weeks since the bleeding started. We don't have her wearing a diaper or anything so I'm wiping the floors whenever I see a drop. I'm seeing less drops, but she is still definitely bleeding, a few drops here and there and lighter in color and thinner in consistency than initially (I actually thought she was done that part of the cycle and gave the floors a thorough scrubbing this morning, but when she woke up from a nap this afternoon there was a "gush" of about three or four drops). She is eating normally, drinking normally, activity level is close to the same (maybe slightly more sluggish, but it's also been warmer out. She's as happy as ever to go on a walk or play), she has kind of a BO smell, but we went to the vet on Friday because she WAS peeing a lot and having trouble pooping last week, but with antibiotics for a vaginal infection and some probiotics everything is back on track in terms of elimination and the vet assured me that the smell really was body odor and nothing to be alarmed about (I give her bum baths every day or every other day to make sure it doesn't get offensive). So my questions are: Is it normal for her to still be bleeding at over 2.5 weeks? And if she continues to bleed, does that extend the cycle - or does the lighter color/consistency mean we're in the second stage? Should I be monitoring her closely in the yard, continuing on-leash walks, etc. for longer because of this prolonged bleeding? I have marked in my calendar to keep close watch until about July 17 to make it a full 'month' from Day 1 of the bleeding, but maybe a month is not long enough? I dont want to be lazy about this at all, but she gets a lot more exercise and "fun" when we can take her on off-leash walks and she loves to lie on the porch in the evening and morning when it's cool, so I'm trying to figure out when we can let her do those things again without worry. I'm probably obsessing about this, but I can't help it! There is a lot at stake!!

In short- yes. The "21 day cycle" is an average for all female dogs- and each is an individual - most have their fertile periods in the second third but it varies depending on the dog. They often get a little vaginitis due to increased licking, etc. you can use a vagisil wipe on her girl parts once a day to keep her from developing a yeast overgrowth. You should due seeing a light at the end of the tunnel now- just be sure and give her a good bath with a listerine/water rinse when she is done to eliminate any lingering smell that might attract the boys once she is out and about again.

Good cleaning tips! Thanks!
