Hairy Heroes: Canine Lifeguards Hit Italy's Beaches - TIME

There is a great article in Time showing Newfies on an Italian beach watching and ever on the alert while a 25 km open water simming event is going on. I wish I could attach it somehow, but here is the address: www.time.com/time/world/article/o,8599,1917618,00.html I hope it works. It's dated today, so hopefully you can find it, if you are interested. It reminded me of Maas (I think that is how his name is spelled) when I first saw him in a Eukanuba ad. It brought tears to my eyes, and got me interested in this magnificent breed. Please let me know if you find it. Thanks.

Goldens, Newfs and Labs are all used per the article. I still wonder why they don't allow that here.
I agree. Here in Canada dogs are not even allowed on any beach. Very hard to take them swimming, let alone water training.

I know, it's really sad, and probably why Buddy doesn't seem to like the water. Hopefully soon he will learn to like it, if I can find a beach where he can swim!

It is not done here yet...I think because the general public is just plain stupid. We are a very small group of people that are amazed at what these dogs can do. This is a subject that just gets me going! Until things change I am afraid that we will be the ones who don't even get out of the car when someone may be in trouble at the beach, because we were to busy reading the sign that says "No dogs allowed".

I couldn't agree more...maybe people are worried about the possible dog poop on the beach...while they leave their food, syringes, and other trash all over the place. I'd go to the beach if I knew a Newfie might possibly save me.
