Just kidding. I'm really enjoying watching Atticus act like a lunatic in the snow. However, last night could have gone better if Atticus hadn't spent two hours laying in the snow and refusing to come in. I finally had to put my boots on (I really just wanted to go to bed) and tromp out into the deep backyard to drag his sorry butt in. He'd been laying out there so long in the snowstorm that I could barely find him. He had a crust of snow almost an inch deep on him. I could swear that he snuggled in deeper when he saw me coming as if to hide himself.

Of course, when I got him in, he took off running through the house before I could get him dried off and get the snowballs out of his paws, crust of snow and all, and then I spent another half hour mopping up the floors. *sigh*

Good thing we all got a snow day today!!! :D

I love a snow day, too!! That naughty Atticus! If it helps, Gloria would not budge either, and it was record cold. I resorted to the familiar cry "Treat, Treat!" and finally, she reluctantly came in. She has been really naughty today about being outdoors, too!! She runs out and buries her whole front self (nose and ears and all) in the snow with her butt sticking up and then sort of jumps around!!!
They just LOVE the cold and snow, don't they??!! We got a 12" in the last two days!! To some I know that's sissy stuff, but here it's a big deal and people totally 100% forget how to drive!!!

How funny! I can certainly relate, I live in St. Joseph Mi, and boy, o boy we got some serious snow as well. Tallulah was in the back yard trying to tunnel her way to China LOL.. What a wonderful time of year to enjoy the Newfs. Craziness’. Have fun in the snow!

Because it was a Holy Day yesterday, the university was closed. We knew that a snow-storm was due to roll in around 4ish, so we went out early, got groceries, visited a very good friend is who's terminally ill and came home. The snow started falling as we were heading home. The dogs got al excited, as it was coming down quite hard. After their dinners, they went out again, and WOW! YEE-HAW!!! They were in heaven. It was such fun to watch them. And they were so gooooood and quiet when they came inside! :D

I've been an unwilling participant in "Let the dogs out, let the dogs in, let the dogs out, let the dogs in" all day. Decided to stay home. We have record cold and ice. Almost no snow. The girls are attempting to eat all the ice off the deck and sidewalk. While doing all this, I'm also doing my Christmas cards, finishing decorating, printing baby shower invitations, and now I'm going to iron. And, probably let the dogs out again.

I guess it's a Newfie thing, Kody is driving me crazy with the "in and out's", he's just so happy with this weather.

He did the same thing to me the other night, went out and wouldn't come in, I also had to get dressed and go drag him in, it's lucky he's soooo cute, you get away with so much more when you're cute, LOL!!!!

Forgive Wrigleys messy fur and lack of grooming on this particular day! Who knew legs could splay that way! Snuggling into the ice/

This is what my dogs are doing too...They can't make up their mind if they want in or out. Driving me just a little crazy

Ours would prefer out...all winter. Unfortunately for them, it's me who says "IN!". Molly has to be hauled in too. The treat call doesn't interest her one bit. She looks at me and then has the nerve to ignore me...and look away!! Ummmm...that's NOT the response I want, especially at bedtime!!

The Goldens are the ones driving us nuts... in out in out in out...argh. They love it too, but it gets too cold when it's in the teens...and soppy. Our snow is always soppy, and then there's the ice.

That picture of Wrigley is priceless. He looks like his "take off" flopped!! ha ha ha

The ignoring part is really what gets to me. I mean, we work so hard to teach our devoted newfs to follow every command. Atticus has even learned to wait until he barges into the bedroom until I turn off the hall light (so as not to wake up hubby, who went to bed early because Atticus got him up at 5 am to play) and give the command "go". He knows to sit and wait at every street corner until I release him, he goes into a down/stay with a mere hand gesture, but then the snow comes and I become some stranger off the street who "don't know him like that" (as my students would say).

Suddenly, I'm standing at the door feeling like a really inadequate doggy parent, having taught him no "right NOW" command. I stand shivering at the door getting blasted with arctic winds, my socks slowly freezing on my feet because they're soaked from walking through the puddle Atticus left on the floor an hour ago (the last time I went through this), yelling like a maniac while he gives me the "Who IS that?" look. I'm sure glad to know that the more experienced newf owners here have some of the same problems that I do.

Thanks y'all. You've made me feel better yet again.

As to the in/out thing...pet door and a stack of towels by the door, solved that problem here. Now about the snow behavior...what do you expect from a breed that comes from a place where Polar Bears roam?

Wrigley looks like he couldn't be happier...great pic, thats for posting it.
