Does anyone have a good link to average growth rates for Newfi pups? I know I need to keep Crycket from growing too fast but don't have a good guide to judge her against. She is just about 18 weeks and 50 pounds. Is that normal? I have lots of large breed experience but only with adult dogs not pups.

Owen is 5 months and weighs 68 lb and is 23 1/2" tall.
Somewhere on here there are some growth rates if you search.

I've been told on here that about 10 pounds for every month is about right, but to do the rib check. Can you still feel her ribs without pressing too hard?

At 21 weeks Moose was 63 pounds, now at 7 months he's 95...I agree about the rib check. Hope it helps!

How big was Crycket's dam and sire? Is she from a smaller line or a larger line of Newfs? Without seeing a pic, knowing her lineage or putting my hands on her, I can say that it sounds like she's in a pretty normal weight range for her sex and age. Remember, the standard calls for females to be between 100-120 pounds at adulthood. It's not a hard and fast rule or anything, but generally speaking, it's a good weight to expect.

When I was concerned over the growth rate of ours I would search bo's growth chart because she had recorded weights for him throughout his growth and it was a good way to reassure me that we were on the right track. However Turner lost ten pounds when we switched him to grain free so at a year he weighed in at 116 lbs. which is less than my last check in on the growth chart. It really is all based on how she feels and how her line runs but I think they were around 45-50 lbs at that age as well

Thanks for the replies. I will have to check with the breeder to see how big sire and dam are. They are a bit distracted right now as the husband is likely dying of liver cancer.

I can feel her ribs easily and based on that she seems to be about right. Guess I will have to wait and see how she turns out. The breeders did say they expect her to be a big girl.

Such a shame re: the breeder's illness. :(

Peter Maniate's website has great growth charts that you can look at for ideas of how Newfs grow from pups, but the rib check is going to be the best answer for you.

And, of course, more pictures please. :)
