Grooming Table Size

I am New to NN and just rescued a 2yr old Newfie. I see that the Tables are 24 X 36 and 24 high or 24 x 42 x 24high. Is it better to get the longer one ? We had Rotties for 16 yrs and they didn't need much grooming. It's had to trim feet and what on the floor, as Venus doesn't stand still long. Something about having hair trimmed on feet. Venus is a BIG girl tall and long.

24 high works...I also have a 42" which I schlep to shows, but I'm considering getting a longer one for the kennel. I can't imagine mine on a 36" one.

We made our own 48" custom table by cutting down a half sheet of plywood, rounding the corners, and attached a pair of folding table legs. I glued on a piece of plastic floor matting. Then I made some steps and my puppers walk up the steps onto the table. The higher table saves me from back pain bending over the dogs. Brinkley lies down on his side on the table and falls asleep while I groom away. When he sits or stands his nose is eye level for me to plant kissies on him. We love our grooming time together. At 5 months old, Bailey is learning how enjoyable grooming is.

I have a 42" one. But wish I had gotten it longer. I wouldn't want to haul around a longer one...but Cole is uncomfortable on the 42" because he's so long. (And spoiled) LOL

You know, if you don't want to put the money into a table, and you have a place you can groom other than right in your house (like a basement, garage, stable?, whatever), you might want to consider a picnic table with the rubber matting glued on.

It's about the right height...you can put a grooming arm on....and it's longer.

That's what I'll be using when the weather is nice. The real table is set up inside.

I have both 42" & 48" tables. I found several I am either trying to move forward to work on the front or move them back to work on the back. I sometimes wish I had a 36". My newfs range in height from 27" to 31". I usually use the 48" at home and the 42" at shows. I know my breeder(well over 40 years of showing & breeding newfs) only have 36" tables for her dogs and doesn't have a problem.

Thank you All for info. Venus is about 30 inches tall and when standing the distance between feet is less than 36. I put yard stick down and 36 will not give much extra if she moves. I was thinking of making one.

Several of mine have unintentionally stepped off the 42". If I had a shorter one I think I'd have flying Newfs constantly!

Ginny -
I have had them do it on 48" too. But once they do it - they tend to settle until they realize there is room to move around.

I'm short 5' 2" and Marcus is tall 32"...we cut our 42" long table down to 20"height. I like the longer table as the boys can lay down for longer grooming sessions...they love the table and don't fidget much.

I think most of them are 24" wide. The only ones that are narrow are the very small tables made for the small dogs. I have a table for my schips that is 12"x 24" and taller than the 36" thru 48" before they are cut down. Most people with giant breeds cut those tables down to about 21" or 22" inches. A few may use a different height because it more is comfortable for them.

Thanks Joan, for the reply. I guess the table or should I say bench that we use is 38" by 48" so I guess mine is right up to specks.
