I love to read, I also like having a good selection of books about any pet I own. Sometimes it is very helpful to have a book to go back to for advice.
(Having bred reptiles I sure loved my books!)

This is a list of Newf books I have read, I feel well Prepared for my new life with a Newf (s) ;)

These books are great for the technical and practical things you need to know about the breed.

1. Newfoundland kennel Club book. by Angela Barlowe
This book is great! you open the cover and there is a color pic of a Newf showing the Standard.
it has the History, puppy care and preperation, supplies, training and health care. Including x-ray pics of dysplasia, grooming pics, fleas, ticks you name it I love this book!

2. Newfoundlands Today By Hedd & Del Richards
This book again has getting a puppy, grooming tips, Obedience and descriptions of water training, draught work, the show ring, breeding.

3. The Newfoundland Gentle Giants by Jo Ann Riley
This book touches on everything as well in easy to understand descriptions. it has plenty of great Pics. I have found it to be very helpful in the descriptions of the different levels of testing for the various activities we can do with our newfs. a very enjoyable read.

This next list of Books gives a very valuable insight to living with these big Love bears! I Loved these books! they made me laugh and cry (I rarely cry) I think these books help define wether a newf is the right dog for you. The above list is priceless as far as The Important information and the facts. these books give you the life of the dogs and their people.

1. Life among the giants by William Ball
This was the first Newf book I read and It sealed my fate. I Laughed at the antics and was saddened by the losses but it was so well written and with humor and pure love. It gives you the real story of life with Newfs.

2. Ninety-nine Newfies edited by Pat Seawell
This book is a compilation of stories of a day in the life of being owned by a Newf from many different people. I can't wait for the second one!

3. In the Company of Newfies by Rhoda Lerman.
This book tells the story of a Woman and her dogs. as a breeder a lover of the breed and best of all an owner. it gives an insight into breeding. the hardship and time that is required from just 1 litter. and the loss of a heart dog. I think anyone that owns a Newf and is thinking about breeding should read this book.

I am always looking for books to read so If i come across more I will add them to the list.
If someone has more to recommend please add them to the thread! For now this is my way of getting my Newf fix lol. That and every video on youtube, I sure hope someone adds more soon!

I would recommend the book by Judi Adler "The Newfoundland Puppy: Early care, Early Training" I know she has some others as well.

I have read a few that you have listed....and most recently read the "Life Among the Giants" on Thanksgiving....very cute book!

Good Luck!!!

I agree with Kathy on Judi Adler - any book she writes is well worth reading, and she has written several of them. The book by Rhoda Lerman is one of my all time favorities....I just can't leave it alone, and keep going back to certain parts. That is the book that really sold me on Newfies and I am forever grateful to her for that.

I also love The Newfoundland by Emmy Bruno, an Italian veterinarian, breeder and judge. She's clearly passionate, (as only Italians can be) about Newfs. Enjoy.

Yep.. definitely the Judy Adler books. She has a great writing style. I was just looking at another site where I found an intro to draft book. I am not familiar with that author.

Great Balls of Fur is one of my favorites. I got my first two Newfies from Holly. I was telling her about my favorite book, she started to laugh. Then said, my Mom wrote it. I was thrilled! She has been an amazing breeder and good friend.

Don't miss this one!
