Funny Story

You could probably do more than 10 min but the best way for him to lose weight is to feed him less calories. Is he eating a fatty food? You can switch to a less fatty food or give less food. How many cups does he get now? You can supplement his meals with green beans to fill him up and not add calories.

one of Ozzys best loved treats is brown rice un- salted rice cakes. He loves them, sometimes with a little bit of peanut butter, sometimes with some banana mushed on top. Filling, but not fatty.
I read somewhere that frequent short excercising is better than long excercising in frequently, both in calorie burning and ease on newfie joints.

I could be wrong (no expert), but I'd eliminate the wet altogether. Most of that stuff is really fat-laden from what I've heard. Yep, try the green beans. Worked wonders for Troy. He gets a cup of kibble and a cup of green beans twice a day and about 1/2 cup of kibble before bed. Also, no thyroid problems, right?

10 minutes! Can Murphy have a talk with Luna and Sky please - they get a 1-2 hour hike each day off leash... and the occassional days when I can not give them that - boy are they fresh!

What dry food is Murphy eating? If you are adding wet for taste you can try boilng up some veggies in chicken broth (not those sodium filled cube kind) and adding a little of that to his reduced amount.

Good Luck!

Collins was getting very fat. He wasn't eating anymore than the other 2, he was just FAT. I switched him to a low fat variety of the usual dog food that the 3 of them had been eating and in a few weeks.....*BAM* I have a lean, mean Collins back.

Collins' problem is he is SO food obsessed. He will beg and steal to get any morsel around. He does look much better now though!

Shawn, the low fat food does not fill them up so they don't feel satisfied. Add green beans to each feeding. They have no calories and help fill them up.

Cora does this from time to time. So, I just give her less food, and even sometimes feed her a reduced calorie food. Regular exercise is also good, which nobody (Canine or Human) gets enough of, in our house.

Lynn,
Our boys do get green beans or broccoli with each meal, sardines twice a week, and treats in between times.

I promise you, Collins has not been "hungry" since he has been with us. He just LOVES food.

Troy seems happy enough too on reduced-calorie Nutro (forgot to put that part in). He gets the same amount as before. He's really food motivated too though and loves any and all treats. He also gets about a 20-30 minute walk each day unless the weather is bad.
