George infection?

I wasn't sure where to post this. I introduced George in the welcome section a few weeks ago - he's the one that thinks my Pomeranian is his toy. He's a little better about that, but still has his moments.

He is 11 1/2 weeks old & we've had him 4 weeks today. He is mostly crate and house trained. He has only had a few accidents in the house & his crate. Usually in his crate, it's because he was in there longer than normal (like yesterday when my husbands medical procedure took longer than we thought).
George is usually loose in the house while we are home, but with access to only 3 rooms (kitchen, living room and dining room). He is very good about going to the sliding glass door when he needs to potty and I'm very good about taking him out if it's been awhile since he's gone.

However, once yesterday and again just now, he has peed in the floor while walking. Like he was just walking across the living room floor and he was peeing & leaving a zig zag line of pee. No squatting or pausing. He did it once yesterday while walking toward the sliding glass door. It's like he doesn't even know he's going.

The only other male dog I've had that did this was Dakota, our long coat GSD when he was about 13 and had hip dysphasia.

Since George is still a wee pup, can he have a uti or something? He acts fine otherwise. Eating & drinking fine. Playing fine. Tormenting the Pom fine.

No experience here, but from what I have read over the years, sounds like a urinary track infection. Not sure if that requires a trip to the vet now or can wait till Monday. Hopefully the experts will chime in soon

Thanks Leonard. He had been out & potties about 30 minutes prior to this & had been playing. Not sure if his urn army system just isn't mature, or he's like a human toddler & too busy playing to go out & potty or if something is wrong

Our lab did this when he was a puppy...he just couldn't hold it long enough to get outside. There was nothing wrong...he just couldn't make it to the door in time. If you are concerned though, maybe a vet check is called for.

I'll watch him and see how he does tonight & tomorrow. It could just be a puppy thing, but it's a new thing for George so it makes me worry

Either UTI or trying to make it out to do his little pee and forget to go, until it was to late.....

Would heat have anything to do with it? It's been really hot here the last few days and he balks at the door in the afternoon. I usually have to pick him up and set him outside lol it's just weird because he acts like he doesn't even realize he's going. He has a vet appt this Thursday, so I'll talk to him about it - unless it seems worse or more frequent, and I'll take him in earlier.

How often are you letting him out? For a pup that young, every 20 minutes isn't too often. Also right after playing, sleeping and eating. Don't be tempted to bring him in until he has done his business. I would not let him have freedom of the house unless I could devote all my attention to him. Otherwise, he is in a crate.

He goes out quite often. He is actively monitored while awake and not in the crate. We've had him for 4 weeks and other than the first week, when he had a few accidents, he has really taken to potty training. My house is "open" so I can see him in the three rooms he has access to. He lays on the a/c vent in the kitchen (only time he's in there unless I'm in there). His food and water dish is in the dining room and that's where the sliding glass door is. He plays and romps in the living room. He has really settled into a nice routine, so his peeing while walking just kind of startled me. He takes about a 3 hour nap every afternoon in his crate with his fan blowing on him. He sleeps overnight in his crate, too. Other than that, he's only in there if we are gone from the house - which we have been really lucky in being able to time our errands, etc, during his nap time

Good idea to have him checked for a UTI but since it is so hot out, he may not want to go out. He may be trying to hold it longer than he should be.

George had his wellness check & shots at the vet today & checked out perfect. Vet said he probably just had a brain cramp over the weekend. He is 25.2 lbs at 12 weeks. Heart & lungs sound great. Temp great. Knows which pocket his vet keeps treats in ;)

He still is very, very young. While he may have the right idea about what to do, he may not be capable yet, but getting it checked is a good idea. At 12 weeks Moonlight had not quite yet been released from her mom. They're certainly no reliably house trained until later. Remember, they mature very slowly.
