Gander - we'll never forget!

The Newfoundland dog I admire the most is a rescue, Gander, the mascot of the Royal Rifles of Canada in World War II. My precious boy, Gander Bear, was named in his honour. You can see a photo of this incredible dog and read his story in the link below:

When the memorial in Ottawa to the Hong Kong battle was being designed, the survivors unanimously demanded that Sergeant Gander’s name be included – of course to me that was a no-brainer.

Newfondly,

I salute Sgt. Gander, but my favorite is Sable Chief, I believe he's the unsung Newfoundland Mascot Peter. For some reason it's become a singular passion of mine to have taken on a writing project about Sable Chief. I have been Corrensponding with a relative of Pte. Hazen Fraizer (Chief's Handler), and have discovered many non-published photographs of Sable Chief, and Stories. I'm either writing a lengthy Article on Sable Chief or a small book, I'm not sure yet, and I'm toying with the title: "Sable Chief of the Newfoundland Regiment - One of the Originial Therapy Dogs."
