Frankenmuth 2011

Just downloaded and printed off the NCA Specialty information for Frankenmuth 2011. Anyone doing Draft or Olympics? I'm thinking of Obedience but don't think I can manage running back and forth between Draft and Obedience like Katie did last year!

Ha you can totally do it Joan!!!! I had help from some very nice obedience judges who moved Mojo and I around all day to accomodate the draft test. We'll be there Tuesday-Sunday. I won't have anyone in the draft test this year. Will have Mojo and Bella in Open obedience and may have them both in rally also. Possibly team obedience as well and Moj will be in conformation. So it'll still be busy but no running back and forth :)

We'll just be taking the CGC. Hopefully next year we'll try for the DD. It's tough waiting for Uschi to grow up!

This is probably a "newbie" question, but are you limited to a siwash style harness for DD ? Juno freaks out with this type of harness.....doesn't like to have anything on her sides. I use a traditional singletree freight harness with her. Didn't know what the stipulations were ???

The draft rules say "The harness must fit the dog. At test sites where the Distance Freight Haul encompasses hilly terrain, the WDC (Working Dog Committee) recommends that an entrant use a siwash-style harness for the dog's safety and efficiency in hauling. If an appropriate harness and apparatus are not used in such terrain, the judges may fail the handler for improper equipment for trail conditions." It's not really hilly or difficult terrain at Frankenmuth. I think, as long as you think your dog is safe in your harness, it should be fine. Go for it!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Katie! Tiika has her CD and DD here in Canada and is working on Open and DDX so we should be able to do a Novice but she is "shy" in new situations. Hopefully she'll do better since this is our 2nd time in Frankenmuth. By Wednesday last year, she did great in the Olympics. Maybe we would just enter the Wednesday Obedience so as not to have a conflict. But we could get lucky, get into the Monday draft, Tiika could pass :dance01:and we'd be free for Obedience on Tuesday and Wednesday! :) Here's hoping! We're going from Saturday, May 1st until Sunday, May 8th this year. We had so much fun last year we don't want to miss anything and we want Tiika, Splash, and Robbie to have a chance to settle in before the trials on Monday.

I am strongly contemplating entering Boj in draft, and Rigsby will probably (if I get the nerve) be showing. YIKES!

She & Splash did great at Newfstock with their demos. I have no doubts you will do well in Frankenmuth again this year....and Katie says so too.......don't forget your can opener, heh, heh.

Meg, if Rigs isn't showing, he can come sit in my lap ;) If he is, he might be in puppy class with my friend's pup.

Thanks! I just need to figure out logistics with the traveling, and see if he'll be ready by then, but he always welcomes a lap to sit on:)

Thanks! Hope to be able to go. How will I recognize NN people? Do you all wear ribbons or name badges? :)

Last year we really only met the NN people who were involved in the same events we were, ie. draft and Olympics. There wasn't really any way to tell who was a Newf Netter unless you already knew them. There were lots of people we missed meeting. Not sure how to fix that. We could have Newf Net buttons or something, I guess.
