Oh happy dance:groovy: :groovy: --I finally found a high quality wet dog food to use as a topper that doesn't have wheat, corn, soy or by products in it:D It's Wellness Turkey Duck Stew, Turkey Turkey stew, Lamb stew. Baloo Loves the ones he's tasted thus far--and as a bonus I can make a pill pocket out of the turkey pieces for his daily meds--I had been using cheese until I read an old post from Donna about allergies to wheat and possible dairy connection making it worse..

I need to back up a bit. I had bought chicken and rice wet food by pro plan and the turkey and rice. I thought I was doing such a good thing...Yea not so much, Baloo broke out and hotspots on his belly and I couldn't figure out what from, I mean I wasn't giving him any wheat or corn. OR was I?? Upon closer inspection, my son looked on each of the cans and there it was:shocker: "wheat gluten" GRRRRRR Silly me huh. to make matters worse he chewed the area to the point that he needed an antibiotic of SMZ...

I hope this might help a fellow NN, it gets frustrating when you are trying to do the very best for your baby only to find out you've contributed to the problem:(

Well congratulations to you for finding such a great wet food! I've used Wellness off and on for years, and was a rep for them for years. I'll have to try it again, thanks to your and Baloo's endorsement! Don't feel bad about the other food - it got you to this one.

Great news! I have a friend with Celiac and she has really opened my eyes to the fact that wheat/gluten/by-products are in sooo many things! One to watch for with dogs is broth - apparently it's commonly added. :(

Congrats on finding something that works! Have you seen the product by Honest Kitchen? It's kinda expensive but as a topper, it goes a LOOOOOOONG way.

I use Honest Kitchen Force (chicken/no grain) along with cooked chicken for my Sophie, who has IBD; there is no wheat or by-products in it. Sophie loves it and has tolerated it beautifully. It is quite pricey, but Charlie's right, as a topper it would go a long way. My local store sells 4 for the price of 3, which helps. What dry food are you using?

Hi Mary,
We feed Baloo the WELLNESS CORE LOW FAT, he loves it!! Baloo used to be overshort for his size;D he went from 167 down to 144 ish and looks wonderful. He only eats about 3.5-3.75 cups per day.

I've used Honest Kitchen, Grandma Lucy's and Sojo's before as toppers. They do go a long way when used just as toppers.

There are some other makers but the names are not popping into my head at the time? I'll try to think and let you know later. One of the many choices that Morgan wanted nothing to do with.
