I have read the different posts on the different dog foods to feed your newfs. When I got Oreo, my first newf, I had her on Science Diet, Large Breed and later on she developed allergies and my vet told me to switch to Euk, large breed natural lamb and rice. She is doing fine on it and reading some of the post the protein content is 23% which is where it should be, low 20%. I have a new puppy, 10 weeks old and she is on Euk Large breed puppy food which has a protein content of 26% and according to the posts, she should be on regular...not puppy..today I went to Petsmart and picked up one bag of the Blue Buffalo fish and sweet potato adult...any thoughts on that? There are so many things out there...just trying to sift thru...I want the best for my newfies. Help!

There's a recent post on the Blue Buffalo food. It's a good high quality kibble, with good ingredients. It's the best the petsmart carries. I spoke with some of the big wigs in the company, and they told me they forumulated it to compete with wellness and canidea. Which I think it does.

I have just recently switched to Blue Buffalo. My dogs love it! Mr. Higgins coat has never looked better and Mama Cass' ears are staying clean now. (She has food allergies.)

Well now there's two Oreo's on NN, your and mine.
We feed Candaie, but I did buy some Blue Buffalo Canned today at PetSmart to try out. I'm going mix a table spoon in with the Yogurt and Pumpkin and see hoy they like it.

I've looked over the ingredients for Blue Buffalo and they look very good.

I also looked at the price...which is higher than Canidae and Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (both of which we've used and like a lot).

The BB is $40 for a 30 lb bag. We get the Canidae for $34 for a 40 lb bag with every sixth bag free. The CS is $33 for a 35 lb bag.

I know these prices vary around the country. They seem to be higher on the West Coast for some reason. I'd check it out in your area.

So, even though it might be good, I'd rather stick with the ones I know that have been great for ours and have solid reputations, and are cheaper too!!

How'd the trial run with Blue Buffalo work with your dogs? We're thinking of switching food for our three pups.

Wow, it's amazing what prices vary from area to area. We were paying $35 for the Blue Buffalo and $48 for the Wellness.

And Marjie - I agree that raw feeding is best, my own dogs are raw feed. But it's not something everyone can or wants to do. It's good for people to be able to explore other options and find what works best for their dogs and themselves.
