Flea/Tick Medications

Does anyone have any opinions regarding use of flea/tick meds such as Frontline or Biospot? Are they safe? Are there any concerns if one has small children or cats, that may rub on the Newf's fur, and that the medication will rub off on the kids/cat?

We use frontline - its amazing. We are practically infested with tics in our area, and the moment we fronline, they are not to be seen. Good stuff.

Yes - their fur stays sort of oily for a day or two - make sure that kidds arent' touching them, which is tough - you put it right where kids pat and touch them - between their shoulders and on their butts.

Also I would not let my wife near the stuff while she was pregnant. We also apply it with rubber gloves.

When we lived in the south, we used Frontline. It was recommended by the vet that was used at the time by SENC rescue. It turns out he had done the clinical trials on the product. He also told me that it would keep the critters at bay for about 3 months, so there was little need to apply it sonner than that. It worked great when I was using it.

Fortunately here in Maine we have little need for the product. My guys are inside dogs, and there seem to be few fleas here. I do, however, need to be on tick alert fairly vigilently. When the ticks are found, it's out with the tick tweezers, alcohol, and lavender essential oil for the doctoring.

Finally winter has arrived here in Maine...
