Fix for Static?

Any suggestions of anything I can do to help with static cling on my dogs' fur? Just petting them causes static shocks. Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to put a humidifier on the furnace and due to allergy issues, the small, portable kinds are out of the question. I've put a little hand lotion on my hands and then petted them, but they just want to lick it off. Static Guard sprayed on their brush might work, but I don't really want to put chemicals like that on their fur.

Thanks for any suggestions!

When there's too much static around here, a quick fix has been to lightly rub a dryer sheet on Boaz's coat. We use unscented, and that has worked for us pretty well.

Is it static "always" or only after a bath? If the latter, you should consider using a different conditioner for the coat.
