Today Hagrid experienced his first thunderstorm here in the old west coast. we don't very many of these. Poor little 70 pound ball of fur, made a leaping dive under the kitchentable. Not even food can coax him out. so here I am still under the table with him on my computer. He makes me laugh!!!!

Now i know this sounds tough...But try to pretend nothing is happening and everything is cool. He will think thunderstorms are bad, if you make a fuss. At our place we try to make out nothing is happening and life goes on :) Ronnie

My Merlin was terrified of thunderstorms, and other loud noises, when he was a pup. During thunderstorms he used stare at the ceiling or, if outside, crouch down to the point where he looked like he was crawling. Today, at 3, he is no longer as scared as he was.

During thunderstorms at our place when the boys were babies, we went outside and played all kinds of crazy games in the rain and the boomers! We tried to have them associate thunder and rain with happy things.

Both Ronnie and Nessa have great advice. Making a fuss out of fearful things when they are puppies makes them more fearful. Ayasha has NO problems whatsoever with sounds of any kind because we really made sure to not make a fuss or we would distract her with something fun. My mother-in-law's dog is terrified of all sounds because they always make such a fuss and now it's a real problem with her becoming destructive and having accidents in the house whenever there is a sound that is remotely close to the sound of thunder or fireworks.

my only problem is we probably won't get another one till next winter. Oh and he's totally fine now that he ate half my tasty burger. He was holding out for the good stuff I know, i watch his tail.

Maybe you can try playing in regular rain and setting up your own faux thunder. I say that because I really would NOT recommend playing outside in real thunder. I came from "up north" where there aren't many thunder storms with lightening and now live in the location of second greatest lightening strikes in US- Tampa being first. Playing outside in thunderstorms is dangerous although most places don't get a lot of lightening. But- be safe, make sure it's just raining and create your own thunder.
