First attempt at watercolor

I am taking a class in town under a local artist. HE had a gallery and is now retired. Just did all the illustrations for the childrens book, "The sunflower and the pansy" What an adorable book!
Anyway, this was my first assignment. It took a bit and it is not nearly anything to frame.
Thank you to Bluedog for the encouragement. She is such a fabulous artist!

I hope that works!

Very nice Christine. I love the colours. I can barely trace a stick man so am quite envious of those of you with talent!

Very pretty, Christine. Both of my daughters are watercolor artists, well one uses many different media, but once in a while they 'gift' me with something. I also appreciate your use of color in this piece.

Thank you guys. :) I am very impatient and hate the slow advance of all the excersises i have to do. But, i realize they are needed.
Garden girl it is so special to have someone in the family that can gift you with special paintings! I have always truly admired anyone who could paint! :)
Tuesday will be week three, i have an 8 week course. I hope by then i can be a bit better then this. Nancy has helped me tremendously to. :)
BTW Wayne, is it your wife that pained a picture of a newf? Was that oil or watercolor? i cannot recall the post i saw today from work and i lost the connection to my phone.

Christine, what an enriching hobby. Way to go! I think your painting is lovely. Yes, patience is virtue that is hard for me as well. :)

Nice job Christine! You have a definite style, very wet-on-wet, look, which gives the watercolor it's translucence. I have friends who would die to be able to paint loose like that, letting go of the urge to control is the hardest thing. If you get the chance, look for some Zoltan Szabo books or look at his paintings online, your loose style is similar to his. Keep painting!!!

Well thanx so much everyone. drulzealot. I will definatly do that! I was told i did go a bit to heavy on the paint as it was shiny in a few spots and in watercolor that is a no no! LOL!!!
But, i did not have a color mixing guide and now i do!! So the frustration on that end is solved. I just need to get the hang of it. The artist i am working under said that painting is individual. EVERYONE as you said, has their own style they fall into. That is so cool. It is like a fingerprint. :)

Wonderful. Great perspective with the home tucked back away on the horizon and the forest up front. I like its soft look. You did a really nice job!

I love the softness to it and the way the colors complement each other... I know nothing about art but I really do like the "mood" of this piece if you will! It made me think of a line from Wordsworth: "I wandered lonely as a cloud / that floats on high o'er hills and vales." Something just very serene and natural.

Can't wait to see future homework assignments! :)
