Feeding both together ? ?

I was looking for advise or suggestions. I was feeding Akira & Chance at the same time, same room, seperate spots. They would keep switching bowls. Now, she started pushing him away from both bowls (no growls) and he would just give up walk away and not eat. So I thought I'd try to feed them in seperate places. As soon as she knows I am putting food in the bowl she will not leave my side. I put her food down, she started eating, I went to put him on the deck with his bowl, she almost knocked me over several times to get his food. I tried to put her in another room and it didn't work. So frustrated, I hooked her to the cabinet door for the few seconds it would take to get him out to eat... well... boom...off the hinges, scared the heck out of all of us. She has never been like this with food. I make her sit/stay for her food after I put the bowl down. She gets her treats, chews first and is not like this with anything but food. Now put her bowl down sit/stay, when she is almost done, I literally have to sneak him and his bowl to the office before she follows us.
I have tried to put each one out at a time... NO GO They will only go out together.
They are very active at playtimes. Since this just started, I don't know if she is just hungrier now because she is more active with Chance around.
Any ideas what to do ?

When I first got Riley, I would feed him first, give him a biscuit and put him out. Then did the same with Kodi. After a few weeks I decided to feed them both at the same time, but stood between them just in case there was a food aggression issue to deal with. I'd put down Riley's bowl first and tell him to "wait". Then I put Kodi's bowl down and gave them both the OK. Riley (the kibble killer) snorts down his food, so I figured that he'd go for Kodi's food when he finished. To my amazement, Riley walked over to the biscuit jar. They both will however, check out each others bowls after they've walked away from them. This is what worked for me, but I'm sure you'll get alot of great suggestions from the other NewfNetters

Patty, I would put Akira on a leash then put both bowls down at the same time. While Akira eats, I would stand there and hold on to her leash until they both are done. If she tries to go for Chance's bowl, pull her back and make her sit until Chance is finished. ;)

Brady and Tim eat together, side by side. This surprises me because Brady has a tendency of not liking to share his food. Tim won't start eating until Brady comes to the dish. Of course whenever one gets a treat so does the other. Brady gets a "pill" when Tim gets his atenolol.

Hi,
I wonder if this isn't normal maturing female bitch behaviour. My female rules over the boys with an iron paw. Sometimes she gets into her head to guard all the food for herself and I have to step in to make sure the boys get to eat.
Dragon will not take too much of Elvira's bossiness but he lets her dictate when he can eat. I've seen this in females before.

Patty I seperate Pervy and Angel when I feed them. Angel eats in the kitchen along with the yorkie and because they are slower eaters often Pervy is scratching at the sunroom door long before their finished. I thought about feeding them all in the kitchen but at least this method for me assures that the other 2 dogs can eat at their own pace and finish before Pervy bounds into the kitchen to check out their dishes. Also I have noticed as of late he is slowing down and tasting his food before he swallows!

If I had two I would feed them seperate - like I do with my cats and Misha. This way each has a chance to eat her food at her own paste and just as much as they want to without being affraid the other would eat it.

Animals can be very protective of their food. My friend has a cat who from time to time doesn't want to eat her food. They only need to place the food where other animals can reach it and it's gone. It works the same for Misha too. Even the cats (and how much of her food can they eat  ) make her eat her kibble, that she would leave otherwise.

I know this is not your case, but just to demonstrate how the presence of another dog can affect them.

We've been pretty lucky. Cora & Kira eat in their crates, but the door's are open. Sailor eats across the room.

Since Bart's been with us, he's adapted quite well... and his eating half in/half out his crate. He tried to check out what the others were eating, but I nipped that in the bud. He's not tried again.
