So for those of you that are going, are you paying the extra $120 for a personal electric outlet? I'm having a hard time picturing how this will work.

Ask people who are professional handlers who have been there before. They should be able to help.

I did ask Lara S., but she said it was a NEW venue and she hadn't been there before.

My handler really doesn't have much need for electric normally.....so he's no help.

HHMM...I wonder if this is their way of making money, or if they are adding extra power to support what might be needed, and they have to pay for it somehow. Typically there are 'public' electric outlets but I definitely understand the concern. Maybe someone on Newf-l or your breeder could post the question on the breeders list? If you know anyone else going, or could ask on newf-l if anyone is going, then ask if they want to go together, and pay for it, to share?

The way I read it, there are public outlets, but if your dryer BLOWS the fuse, they will turn it on one time, then after that, if it blows again, you will have to "upgrade". If you upgrade BEFORE a certain date, the cost is $120......after that date it is $260 something. Typically I am OK on one motor.....but sometimes even that blows it depending on who else is on there and what they are using. You know how that goes. I would REALLY love to bathe her the day OF the show, but with only one motor, it will take forever to dry her.....and she will be on the table a LONG time. Course even if I pay for the "upgrade".....using two motors may STILL blow it for all I know.

I've asked the only person I knew that was going....and they hadn't really thought about it. Breeder didn't know anything either, but maybe she can ask arouund more for me.

I guess I am really just not sure what the difference is......for the upgrade.

The AKC rep's first reply was: READ YOUR PREMIUM.

Second reply: "Most people with big dogs will bathe them before coming to the show, so they will not need the electric."

Sigh.

We're going to show in the regular shows preceding.....so she will need another bath before Eukanuba. Guess I'll have to bathe her the day before and live with it.

Firstly, where is the Eukanuba show :icon_redface:
Secondly, then pray she doesn't jump into a muddy puddle:lol:

Angela, it was 2 funny.... Been there, done that! I bathed 2 newfs in a motel room once. Not a show site motel, but when I was living out of town, there just wasn't anywhere else to do it and they needed it. I thought I was never going to get the bathroom cleaned back up, but they never knew, and I did not blow them dry there. I have however ran extension cords out of motel rooms and soaked them down with spray bottles, when needed. Now there are more do it yourself dog washes, so I'd try that first.

Anyway, the AKC rep probably would be clueless. The show superintendent office, or one of the officers of the other host clubs offering the other shows, would probably be a better person to answer your questions. They should all have some familiarity with the show site. The Rep answering you like that is just being an idiot, IMO. Everyone knows that people are traveling from all over the country for this show, so the bathing/electric facilities are very important. Many handlers always use the facilities on site, as they are going from one show to another.

ROTFL Susan, can you imagine blowing a Newf dry in a motel bathroom!!!!!!! That's quite the visual.

Well, when I say "rep".....it was the AKC contact sent with the letter about the electricity. So you would "think" he would be in the know....Ha!

The other shows that are being held there are normally held down the road at the fairgrounds I think. So not sure if they'll know much about it either, but I'll try to look for a contact there.

You could always come to the Penn Ohio Specialty in Cleveland at the IX Center Dec 17th & 18th instead. We won't charge you for electric. And if you blow the fuse - I'm sure David will turn the power back on for you if you ask him nicely :)

I read the premium and went 'wow'. Try calling actual convention center and see what electrical supports. Probably concerned all the big dryers will trip the outlets. They must have some special outlets that take higher amps there. Usually convention centers do for conventions.

But I thought that price is a little steep.

Well, if my HANDLER would have gone to your specialty.....that's where I would have gone! Ha! Sounds like you've put a lot into it and it is going to be a really good one!

You know I initially "thought" this was going to be a neat experience, but now maybe not so much.....Ha!

I get ONE day pass with my entry, but Robin will have to pay for her own day pass. Then yes, if we want to just attend the evening sessions, you pay another ticket fee. IF you win and go on to group, they do give you 2 evening passes.
