I C&P this sad email Chris Pulver (NEWF Rescue)

It is with the heavest of hearts and a tower of sadness that I am informing you of the loss of our beloved Ellen Toll Katz. If ever there was a soul on earth who dedicated their every waking moment to the Newfoundland Dog, it was Ellen. If a persons heart could be completely filled with the care and concern for any displaced Rescue, then Ellen's heart overflowed. If a hundred people turned to Ellen over the years for guidance and direction, Ellen had time to direct a hundred more. Her advice was always sencible and correct. Her devotion was the inspiration to so many of us. Her efforts never ran tired. Her deeds always on target. My only hope is that we can follow in her giant pawprints and carry on her tremendious work. She was a woman of strength and focus. Her heart was deep with love and care. Her time here was not nearly long enough. My guess is that the numbers of Rescues that she has helped along her way, stood knee deep to greet her as she left our pathetic world to join them on the other side. Now they will care for her. Ellen's passing was sudden, yet she let it be known that when this time came she wanted no flowers, only donations to NCNE Rescue Fund. Donations would be in care of Ellen's dearest friend and soulmate in Rescue, Cathy Derench. So the next time you have a rescue that lies heavy on your heart, remember that Ellen is probably there like a solem breeze, helping and guiding the karma on this displaced rescue. Ellen passed on Friday, June 23, 2006. She left behind her son John, her wonderful daughter Tracy, and her most prized posession, her Granddaughter Jorden. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.

If tears could build a stairway
And memories a lane
I'd walk right up to heaven
And take you back again..." Author unknown
Thank you for your prayers

Oh my goodness! I never met her but she lived in the town next to mine and helped place a 10 1/2 year old Newfie I was asked to help several years ago(he belonged to the receptionist in my friend's doctor's office). I sent an e-mail asking for help and provided the owner's phone # thinking nothing would come of it. Three days later I received a phone call from the grateful owner letting me know her dog had moved to a wonderful home in NH thanks to Ellen. What a dedicated and wonderful person she was.

What a meaningful tribute. This wonderful lady was fortunate to have friends like you who appreciated her valiant efforts. She lived a life that was a shining example of focus, priorities, direction, and choice directed to what is really important. I think simply reading a tribute like this has the power to make me a better person. Thank you. God bless and my sincere condolences to all who grieve this good, good lady. Her blessings will live literally forever through time.

Ellen Katz was a true angel. When Russell & I first got involved with Rescue, we heard about her "from afar". People spoke about her in glowing terms, and we learned after meeting her at the National in 2000 (Warwicke) that all the praise we had ever heard was truly deserved. She was so incredibly sweet to us, and spent a great deal of time with us. We had Sadie (our first rescue) entered in the rescue parade. We were so excited and so proud... and Sadie was having a hard time getting around. Ellen was very understanding and encouraging. She made us feel welcome.

There is a magnificent reunion occuring tonight at the Bridge. She will be missed, and my prayers go out to all who knew and loved her.

RIP Ellen...

My sincerest condolences! I never had the pleasure of meeting her but from what I'm reading, this world could could use 100, 1000 or more like her. I'm sure there's quite the reunion going on up there about now!

May her spirit be forever at peace and in the company of the many Newfs that she touched in her life time!
