Thanks to everyone who sent good thoughts our little Echo's way.

The news today was not good. We plan to enjoy her and spoil her while she's with us.

She's such a sweet mischief-maker, and we're lucky to have every minute we spend with her.

Thanks again for everyone's well-wishes!

I'm sorry to hear that the news isn't good.

It's not easy to know you have a dog with a serious heart problem, yet it's really important to let them run and play and have fun just doing everything all doggies do. The good thing is that she doesn't know she's sick....... Enjoy her...while she enjoys herself!! That's the most important thing of all!

Hopefully, Echo will beat the odds and be one of those that live a long and happy life, in spite of her problem.

Big hugs to Echo, and I'll still be sending her good thoughts and prayers for a continued good, long life.

I am sorry, I know exactly how you feel. Our Timmy who will be 4 in August is an SAS boy. We do the same with him. We pray he just beats the odds and we do tend to "spoil" him. We decided when we found out about his SAS that we were going to let him live his life to the fullest and we thank God for the time we have with him. Timmy has the sweetest disposition of the 3 of our boys, he is a bit timid (hence his name). With Brady being sick he has taken over the role of big brother to Wilbur. I must tell you though when he was first diagnosed I looked at every little thing he did, I still do to a point. Timmy is a great boy and I know your Echo is a great "little" girl. If you don't mind my saying so try not to dwell on the diagnosis and let her have a wonderful life with you, you really never know. It is quite possible both Tim and Echo will beat the odds and fool everyone!! Take care and please hang in there I know exactly how you feel. Oh, by the way Tim is on Atenolol, it slows his heart rate a bit so it doesn't have to work as hard ( at least that is the way they explained it to me). It doesn't affect him in any way. Maybe you could mention it to your vet, just a thought. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry you didn't get better news. We'll be thinking good things for Echo's future! Newfie's are amazing dogs, so I'm sure she is going to make the best out of these rotten results. ;) She's a precious little girl!

Kitty,

I am so sorry to hear that you got bad news. I know you'll do everything you can to make sure that your Echo has a wonderful life. I would like to share with you that I know of a newf who was diagnosed with a grade 5 SAS about 6 years ago. My friend was determined to do all that she could for her girl, and when I heard from her about 6 months ago, her girl was still doing well... she was starting to slow down a bit, but she was thriving. I was thrilled to hear this.

If you would like to get in touch with my friend, send me a PM and I'll email her to see if she'd be willing to chat with you. Sometimes talking with people who have been there really helps!!!

I am so sorry with you to hear such sad news. Talk to others going through this. It is always helpful. Each case is different but it is some comfort to know you are not alone.

God bless and take care.

remember there are many who have denied the odds, one i know of that lived up north from me, outlived what doctors predicted by five years.
they told her he had maximum of three years, he lived to age 8 1/2
so sorry to hear this, but still keep the faith!

Sorry to hear that you received bad news about Echo. We recently found out that our Lucy has a heart defect, too...with a class 5 (out of 6) heart murmur and an enlarged heart. Her tricuspid valve is malformed and never comes close to being closed. She doesn't seem to realize that she's a sick girl, though. She's still an energetic nut, who loves to run. We're going to let her do whatever she feels up to doing, and try not to dwell on her condition. We hope that your Echo has many more happy years with you.
