dry flaky spots

Over the last couple of days I have noticed that Tay has all of these little dry flaky spots over her. They are about the size of a little finger nail and are just patches of dry skin. When you scratch them of they pull out bits of her fur and the skin underneath is red. Are these hotspots? How do I get rid of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tayla does not seem to be too itchy either. Except for one really big one on her tail which is driving her crazy. The poor Baby!

When you take them to the Vet (and I would) have them do a FULL Thyroid Panel and send it to Michigan State University...they have the most comprehensive testing for Thyroid problems. Here's some information about Hypothyroidism:

AND, ask him/her to do a scraping of the skin and see if it could possibly be Canine Seborrhea. Here's a link about it...check it out and see if the symptoms fit:

We have had this for years - on every newf we have had and some of the others. It must be weather, becuase it's only when it's really hot and humid. Just rub a little neosporin into the spot a couple of times a day for a couple of days. If you can keep the little spots little, they will not turn into the big hot spots. Don't forget to check under the elbows of the front legs. That's where Echo gets them most. I think the humidity "collects" in their hair and they do not get dry. My vet, over the years, has given me the above advice, and it does work. Once it cools off, the "itchies" are gone.

I have the same problem but the spots have little scabs that flake off. Most of it is around tail and on her back. I am checking for allergies, will let you know what I find out.
