A friend sent me this link~

Dr. Google

I check with my breeder, I check NN too, but I am so guilty of this, sometimes.

"Clients will surf," she says, and it's best if vets instruct them how to find reliable sites, so they don't find and believe information that causes "a prognosis to become bleaker."

Two tips she offers: "If a site has stuff for sale on it, skip it." And "when you plug in symptoms, follow them immediately by 'veterinary school' or 'college of veterinary medicine.' "

And in an emergency, don't go first to the computer.
And for your viewing pleasure - a Newf named Oberon. :D

Yes, it is Christie's Newf's name (dumainedogs). I did think it could be one and the same, but this Oberon belongs to a lady named Rosemary. Good catch though, Kristen! ;)

How cool! Another Oberon.. plus he's pretty cute! And.. that is good advice as well. It is sometimes difficult to separate fact from fiction on the web. But, my searches have led me to some wonderful things... newfnet for one :) and the wheelcorgis yahoo group which just tipped me off to the source that allowed me to get "loaner wheels" for my Betty! (info and pictures will follow in another post-- soon!)

When Nellie was a puppy (about 8 months old) I was sitting in the living-room, talking on the phone. I watched her walk right up to our Christmas tree, take a glass ornament off the tree and eat it. Yes, it was glass and yes, I heard it crunch in her mouth. By the time I got over to her, she had swallowed the ornament. Lol, because I screamed, I think she started eating faster. I was at home alone, this was 10 o'clock at night, very close to Christmas and over 8 years ago, we had no emergency vet back then. I called my Vet, got his answering service-I think he was at a holiday function. I ran to my computer and Googled *dog ate glass ornament*. I got hits-I couldn't believe it!!!!

Most sites said to feed her cotton balls dipped in milk. I had cotton balls, I had milk, I could do this. My Vet called MUCH later in the evening and since Nellie was fine at the time, he told me to bring her in first thing in the morning, unless she was in distress - I could call again. Of course, I couldn't sleep that night, but Google probably saved my Nellie's life that night.
