Does anyone know if the Ashley Craig packing peanuts are safe to eat?

Katala's Newfiepalooza brush was on the doorstep when i was going out the door to pick up Art so I stuck the box inside the foyer. When I got home the brush had been liberated from the box and the packing peanuts feel like marshmallow from the slobber. I don't know if she ate any. Does anyone know what they use and if it's safe?

Thanks,
Sharon

Put one in water and see if it dissolves. Some do. They're usually more "airy" looking.

Hopefully she didn't think they were a great snack.

It did dissolve. Does that mean it's probably OK? It felt like corn starch. Do they make peanuts out of that?

Looked them up (the peanuts). If they dissolve in water they are either sorghum based or cornstarch based and while not made in food safe conditions they are not toxic. Donna, thanks for the info.

You're welcome. I think more are being made that way these days, and it would make sense that a dog supply company would use the ones that are safer....good forethought on their part! :)

I've heard of a "Getting a little Starch", but that seems to be a little much - LOL. Glad nothing bad.

Very good to know. Didn't know they were doing that these days. Very good on there part. Thanks for the info.
Not everyone is. Beware of them anyway, and if you think that your pet has eaten some, check and see if they dissolve.

The solid "S" shaped white ones are some sort of plastic, I think. I know the more solid looking ones don't dissolve.

The Ashley Craig people called today and confirmed they were starch and Katala wouldn't have problems from them. They say this happens from time to time so they picked pet-safe ones.

Katala celebrated today by chewing the ends of some boards Art bought to make me some shelves :banghead: and then barfing up wood chips.

Glad they were safe.

Katala sounds like Poppy. If I didn't watch her, she would eat whatever wasn't nailed down. Even convalescing she managed to get my headband. I fished it out of her mouth. Little turkey. Have to watch her like a hawk, especially if she's bored, like now. She wants to RUN! and I say, no, you aren't healed yet. feh.

I work at a warehouse and didn't even notice the change. Is that why those things are always stuck to the bottom of my shoes after walking in the rain?
