Do you think he is a Newfie/Newfie X or somthing else?

We adopted our newest family member last month and we were told he was a Newfie. We were excited because that is the breed we really wanted. Now we aren't sure. What do you all think? His name is Bear and when we adopted him last month he was 8 months 55+lbs.

He seems very fine boned, but cute and sweet looking anyway....Maybe newfie cross lab or Golden Retriever. But you never know, he might just be fine boned. He is lucky to have found someone to love him.
Welcome to NN, from us here in Australia

Beautiful dog! Looks like a bit of Newf, lab, golden, or flat coated retriever. All awesome breeds!

In that first pic the face/expression looks newf to me...May have some lab or something else in the mix as others have stated.
Whatever he is, he's a cutie and looks like he's having a grand time! Love his smile.....

He looks more like a Chow and Lab mix to me. Labs have webbed feet also.
He's still cute whatever he's mixed with.

He's very cute! I think he's a mix too, but looks like a very sweet guy!

The top pic does look like a Newf, the bottom shows that he's more fine boned than most Newfs. If he's got webbed feet, I'd say he's mixed with a retriever too. They also have webbed feet.

Hi Babymine!

I'm pretty sure if I posted the following pics and asked the question you're asking, I would get the same answers.

Forgive the quality of the pics as they are almost 9 years old - when digital cameras were still pretty new.

Newf or a mix of some sort?

She is a PB Newf and she is 5 months old in these pics. She looks very much like your Bear. I could post a progression of pics as she ages and changes, but I won't bore you. We brought her home at 8 weeks from the (BY) breeder.

She is smaller than my other two newfs and not just because she is a female, she is only about 105 lbs. ;) Nellie on the far right.

I guess what I'm saying is that your Bear could be a purebred Newf as he looks a lot like mine at that age. She didn't actually start getting a nice Newfie coat until she was about two years of age.

This is an embarrassing pic but here goes (she has a ton of coat, mostly a spay coat):

Most recent pic -head shot & getting groomed.

Oh gosh she's precious! Love the muddy water in the pool. ;)

What's a "spay coat"?

Garden Girl she is absolutely beautiful. I see that Newfs develop at their own pace so I guess we will have to wait and see. His coat is starting to change to the color of his ears. I can't wait to see him in a year or 2. We rescued him after we lost our GSD/Chow a couple months ago.
