Decorating for Christmas

Well, we did it! We spent the better part of yesterday evening setting up our "outdoor" nativity scene. It's the first time in 4 years that we have put it... mainly because we either never got around to it, or because of the dogs. However, in talking about it, we both missed it, and decided to get it out and put it up.

So, after we had it up, and all lights working, we brough Cora and Kira out. Cora was a bit curious, but didn't seem too undone about it. Kira on the ohter hand wouldn't budge. She just stopped and stared at it. Our yard still had some snow left, and is very slippery. We've had rain for days, and so we took Ben & Yelda out back to do their business, so they didn't "meet" the Nativity until this morning.

Ben was only interested in checking out the lambs to make sure they didn't move. Once he figured out that they weren't real, he was wary, but went along his merry way. Yelda on the other hand was totally freaked out. She stopped and stared at it, then growled and barked. I had her, and when Russell took Ben inside, the brat (Russell) plugged them in, and that just sent her over the edge. I didn't have to worry about her dragging me over to it... because she was trying to get behind me. Of all our 4 newfs, Yelda is is the biggest bully!!! So it's funny that something like this really frightens her.

I'm hoping that she mellows... and that I get some pictures!!!

Our Nativity Scene is nothing fancy... just molded plastic. We don't have a camel, donkey or adult sheep.. and I'd love to find them. We did look on Ebay, and these things are later with one of our actual yard!!!
becoming quite collectible. Perhaps it's just the time of year, but it is nice to have it up.

If I am able to get a picture, I'll post it for sure!

Quite the visuals you've painted there - I could "see" each of their reactions easily. Next time forget the camera - get a camcorder ready!

I could just picture their reactions! You described them brilliantly.

Big, tough Brenna was almost unglued by our neighbor's Halloween decorations. They hung "sheet ghosts" from several of the trees, and a couple of scarecrow-looking things were in the front yard. I really had to almost drag her past them to finish our walks....and heaven help me if the wind happened to blow as we were going by, making the ghosties wave in the breeze......

Good seeing you here Annie! I'm glad you took the time to do something nice for yourself by setting up your nativity scene!

I love those Nativities. They just add a safe, homey feel to the yard, house, and season! Dogs' personalities are really funny in that they are so different ! Great description of their reactions, and it's really good to hear from you!
