Cystinuria Tests

I have a breeding pair, both from a German kennel, where all of the parents of my two Newfs tested free of cystinuria. In America, should I still test both of the breeding pair? Who does the official test?

A lot of breeders clear by parentage. But I always test all of mine. Just makes me feel better. I test for everything ... cystinuria, heart, eyes, thyroid, patellas, hips and elbows, whether I plan on breeding or not. It's good for the breeder to know, and for the *proof* to be on OFA. It's also good for any other breeder that might want to breed into that line to be able to see the results of those tests on the OFA site.

Here's what the NCA website says:

Cystinuria DNA test by a qualified laboratory: PennGen, VetGen, Optigen, HealthGene, or Veterinary Diagnostics Center.

Alternately, progeny may be cleared by parentage. Please refer to the OFA Website for their policy on "Clear by Parentage".

If you're not going to Nationals, compare prices - they vary a lot. When I was doing cys. testing, VDC was the cheapest.

We used Veterinary Diagnostics Center...on both boys even though they will not be bred. Max is clear and our breeder informed us Marcus was a carrier. Results were the same with our own test and results sent to OFA.

OK, I got the results back from the lab and both were tested as clear. Does anyone know whether I need to register this with OFA or some other organization?

While it is not a requirement to register the results on OFA, IMO, it is a good idea to register it with OFA, especially if you are considering breeding.
Here is a link to the OFA form you need.
