Crust around eyes

Morgan has crust around her eyes. She has seasonal allergies that are getting worse as she ages. She rubs her eyes and scratches them roughly with her back feet. Benedryl or chlortrimaton does help with the itching, but right now I am looking for relief for around her eyes. I am so hesitant to put things around her eyes because I dont want anything to burn her eyes or make it worse. Vet suggested wiping eyes a couple of times daily with a warm cloth...which is fine, but it doesnt help her. Any ideas? I am wondering if I should take her back in specifically for her eyes...

My Gabriel has this problem. To the point that he was having a lot of hair loss around his eyes.
I use terramycin opthalmic ointment around his eyes. It seems to have slowed the hair loss and it is even growing back some.
I use a warm damp 4X4 gauze to wipe the crust/goo from the eye, let the area dry then apply the ointment.
It comes in a tiny squeeze tube and it about 12-15 dollars a tube depending on where you buy it. A tube lasts a while though. If you have a farm or feed supply store close you might try there. I used to get it at TSC. Now I usually just order it online when I am getting other stuff.

He seems worse this year than usual, so I also got some antibiotic drops for when his eyes are red or seem to be bothering him more. It's a neo/poly/dexa stuff. If you are on good terms with the vet they might just sell you the drops without having to take her in.

My Yorkie has this problem and the vet suggested using saline solution that you would buy for contact lenses to help clean her eyes. You can use it as a rinse or you can apply it to a rag or gauze and wipe. Hope you find a solution that will help make Morgan happy. :bear:

I just read yesterday where you can use a 50/50 solution of baby shampoo and water to clean allergy gunk from around eyes. After cleaning, then go back and wipe again with water, to rinse.
