Cone Stink

As you may have seen in 'Maladies & Diseases' Moby underwent TTA surgery last week so not we have a drooling dog who drops kibbles when eating wearing a cone. He is starting to stink. We have wiped the inside of the cone but his neck area is always damp. Thought about removing the cone for a while but they are not really made to take on & off (his last cone ended up with duct tape holding the seams). and he will get wet again.

Any ideas?

Is the cone a necessity...I know I always just took the darn thing off, and then watched her like a hawk (I know, I have no life!) and provided LOTS of distracting treats. Worked for us.

A bite not collar is the answer. You can make one with cardboard and duct tape. Just be sure it is wide enough so he cannot turn his neck. It must fit very snug between the shoulders and the ears.

We just take them off regularly and leave them off as much as possible. Also, we attach them to the collar with string so they can be untied easily. If it's too tight for that, it's too tight.

Try this: http://www.amazon.com/Comfy-Cone-E-...TF8&qid=1377456703&sr=8-1&keywords=comfy+cone

You can easily take it on and off, so you can leave him out of it unless he's unsupervised. Also, its fabric, so a bit more breathable than plastic.

Maggie learned that she could throw herself on the ground and break off the dumb clips on the plastic one. This alternative works well.
Zuzu has this one. The plastic one was toast in a day, the inflatable one she laughed at, and one of the stiff neck ones she just reached around (she's looooong). So this was it. She did eventually figure this one out....shake your head till the velcro comes down in front, then lay your head on the ground till you can get a front paw onto the top edge of the cone, straighten yourself up and voila!

But anyway, yeah, the comfy cone is easiest to keep clean and was the only one that did even a lick of good. :)

when Lewis was neutered we had quite the adventure, trying every cone type and ultimately got a comfy cone and it's worked really well.
