Collars

Hmmm, most newfs I know have way too much hair for the prongs to even penetrate to the skin. It's a pinching action around the whole neck, not a poking action.
I also use rubber tips, more my comfort than Gracies. I would personally never use a halti/head collar, I've heard of lots of cases where the dogs suffered severe neck injury.
My motto-- Use what works for you and your dog!

Hi!

I have started using the Halti head collar on Buddy. For the most part a regular buckle collar works great...unless we are going to be around a lot of people. He loves people, and thinks everyone else should love a big, wet, hairy newfy who thinks he is a lap dog.

I tried the Halti after working with an obedience trainer. I find it much easier and gentler correction, like anything, when its used correctly. The trainer also mentioned the Halti has the added benefit of going over the top of the nose which adds a bit of a dominance feature.

We still use the regular collar and choke most of the time, but the halti is a wonderfully gentle training tool....where the head goes, the body follows. (The corrections are very different than the chokes)

Good luck!
