Coat question

I was wondering if newfs coats varied within the breed. I see all of these floofy newfs on here and Turner and Willow are very light on floof in comparison. Willow especially I swear she's a short hair newf. In comparison to other dogs they are very fluffy and furry but compared to other newfs they are not at all. Is this common? Neither one of them has much of an undercoat at any point throughout the year but I was wondering if they should get a supplement to make them have a fuller coat?

Jake is the same way and I have seen several other newfs with more straight hair and less undercoat...I am still waiting at 2.5 years for Jake to get the fluffy fur but I don't think it is in the cards for him.

Snuffles and his half brother/cousin Apache are very different. Apache is VERY thick coated. I do remember a friend who showed in FL say that FL dogs did not have near the coats of the northern dogs.

Maybe Bri could donate half her undercoat to Willow? I swear, she's a walking dust bunny when her coat isn't trimmed and thinned.

All three of mine have a different coat, ranging from very short almost like a lab to about 6 inches long if not kept trimmed up. One has a fair undercoat, and the other two have heavy undercoats.

I find that Landseer coats are more fine than Black coats. Their undercoat isn't as dense and the feathers, pants and tail tend to matt quicker. I live in Canada and my girl's coat is fine with little undercoat even though it is very cold outside.

Myra has no floof, she only has an alfalfa....one long strand probably about 1/2" wide, I leave it cause it's so dang adorable. She didn't really get what I'd call a normal coat until last year and that was after being on thyroid meds for a while. It's still thinner than Zeke's but much more normal now. I do think that really stems from the genes, what kind of coats did the parents have?

Bernie is still a pup and probably hasn't got his adult fur but when he was a baby he was so fluffy but now it seems really thin,I was wondering when the fluffiness would start

I need something to tame a woolly mammoth coat. LOL

I can strip and thin Piper's undercoat all day long and it still bunches up in just hours. She almost feels lumpy. I keep the grooming equip next to my easy chair, because I get obsessed with her coat being so thick.

Their parents coats were not big and fluffy but their breeder also kept their coats shorter so I wasn't sure if they were like that because of her or their natural coat. Willow does have the alfalfa and her coat is very soft versus Turner's coat that is much fluffier and coarser. Sound Bay Newfs what is in Inflight coat formula? With Turner's allergies we are very cautious about adding to his diet.

Here's a pic from October right after they were groomed. We had an mini photo session to send pics to Noah's brother and wife who are currently working in Abu Dhabi.

Here's impromptu pics from this morning pre brushed and just woken up wondering why in the world mom is making them pose. Willow is sitting and Turner laid down because clearly it was too early for him to hold a sit.

side profile of Willow

Side profile of Turner in between him giving her kisses. You can just see where his hair is still growing back on his shoulder blades from his lovely hot spot in October. Also I don't know why his feathers didn't show up in this pic but they are similar to Willow's except for the part that they shaved for his IV.

Willow's alfalfa and her amused face at me making it stand up for this pic
