Cheeto, the dog that gets ignored

I've been accused by friends and family of ignoring my non-Newf, Cheeto. He gets lots of lovin' but I've just never bothered training him, because he's shy, skiddish, doesn't often seek people out, and rarely does anything "wrong." Besides, he already knew sit, down, and come.
Well, two nights ago I was clicker training Chumley. Cheeto knows the routine to stay out of the way, but he broke routine and began sitting for a treat. He's only ever watched clicker training, but I thought I'd try with sit and down in the garage, away from the food monger. When he went into a down he tucked his front legs under as he sometimes does. I decided to click this natural behavior so this is what I got on day 2. Sorry for shaky vid, but my hands were full with phone, clicker and treats...

He sure caught on quick, what a smart boy!!! How adorable, I have never seen a paw tuck like that! I love how is tail it telling you 'mom, mom, mom I'm good, I'm good!! This might be a silly question, but since we have a six month old we are trying to train, what is clicker training?

I'll try to explain...when you're training and your puppy gives you the behavior you want, click that behavior. The dogs associates that sound with, "yes, that's correct!" and quickly realizes he gets treated for it. You must click at exactly the right time or the dog could get confused.
A great example is the touch command. It is the first exercise my puppy learned in puppy class, because they cannot fail. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's a useless trick. It can be applied to many more important commands (such as heel) in their adulthood. Here's a vid of "touch":

Here's another good example of just how clicker training works. Take note of "jackpoting." As you can see, the possibilities are endless...

Good Luck...would love to see a vid of your pup
