I'm interested in training Monty to do some carting or pulling for recreational purposes. Where should I start? Are there any good books on the subject and resources for a harness?
I'll check with Peter Maniate.. He is the go to guy for this stuff... :groovy: Plus he knows Monty and has a soft spot for him... As we all do.. :bear:I'm interested in training Monty to do some carting or pulling for recreational purposes. Where should I start? Yessssssssssss to the info given and to have funI found this book to be very useful (and it has the tags and highlights to prove it!) http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=Carting+With+Your+Dog+Positive+Draft+Dog+Training+for+Fun+and+Competition+%28Dogwise+Training+Manual%29
And this is a friend of ours (as well as a draft judge for a couple of breeds) who has great info on her web page. http://www.romanreign.com/drafting.htm
I credit the book, Jennie's videos, and our PVC cart for Thor's draft title earned in February. But most importantly, have fun!
Yes, I agree. The BEST videos (IMHO) available are from the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Souteastern Wisconsin. This is a 2 DVD video set. The first video is all about training and the second video is about getting ready for testing. The DVDs can be ordered directly from BMDCSEW or from Wilczek Woodworks.
