Can you use human detangling spay on a Newf?

I seem to remember someone recommending Infusium 23 or something...Rory is matted on her chest - above and below her collar, which she wears most of the time - but I think they will come out if we work at them. I bought a human spray in conditioner, one that you spray and leave in. I wasn't game to use too much yet though. It seemed to help with combing out the matts, but I thought I'd check before going gung-ho with it!

Yes, Infusium 23 (leave-in ... brown bottle) works well for getting out mats. I just spray it on and work out the mats with a wide tooth comb The only type of collars that do not make the hair mat under them is a rolled leather collar.

I use flat buckle collars on my dogs and do not have problems with mats around the neck.

I also use Mane & Tail conditioner on my dogs when I bath them. It is actually a horse product but is sold for human use also. They also make a shampoo which many people use for both themselves and their dogs.

Yes Infusium will work fine as will cowboy magic, but its greasy. Just a conditioner will work also. Bax only wears his collar when we are going out. I was told that about the rolled leather collars, but I found them to cause mats and tangles. I like the flat collars much better.

Cool, thanks for the info! I have heard that about the rolled leather collars - I've never really seen them around anywhere except on the internet. I like Rory's collar though, it's cute! The matts are frustrating though.

We have a rolled leather collar for our newf. The matts still happen so we only put a collar on for going for walks etc. The only way to prevent matts it seems is to have no collar. Do you know if the detanglers made for kids hair works on Newf hair? The feathering on his legs is always kind of bunching together instead of staying nice and - uh, feathery.
I'd love to have those feathers stay nice without having to brush every day.

Regardless of what type of collar you use or detangler spray, Michele, there is no substitute for regular brushing and grooming. If you keep us with it, then it really is only a few minutes a day maintence.

I just got the collar I ordered from Elle's link at White Pine Collars:
White Pine Collars

It is a great collar!! It is a great quality nylon with a sturdy buckle and link. The price was reasonable. I got the Martingale style.

Thanks Elle for the link!!!
