Saphira does not like to jump from the boat, so this has been our nemesis in training for WRD this year. Not sure why I never thought of this before, but since I am also starting her training for CDX, I thought I would make it fun and start working on the jumps just prior to going to the lake. I set up the High Jump and the Bar Jump for her and we have been making a game out of her jumping over them. We do this a few times just before heading out to the lake. Today, she was spectacular!! The first time we did the Retrieve Off A Boat, she jumped right off. Then when we did the Rescue exercise, same thing, she jumped right off!! And, I notice she is keeping her head higher and not going underwater as she did before. We will keep working on this and hope for successful results at the upcoming water tests!!!

I assume you're working broad jump. When come off boat you want a jump out. Some things to work on besides regular jumps are broad jump. Also, doing work on dock jumping, as in dock diving, where jump out on the jumps.

Started with the high jumps for now, will include the broad jumps also. She is already learning to jump up and out, not diving anymore! :)

Today she did excellent and jumped each and every time she was asked to do so. She is no longer diving and is keeping her head above water when she jumps. She did every exercise perfectly today! Had it been an actual test, she would have passed with flying colors. Now to keep the momentum going and hoping that she does this at the test! LOL.

Well done, this just shows again how land training IS an important part of water rescue work :).
