Bone cancer

Here is a picture of the xray post surgery. Pretty wild.

He is doing great-- wants to run already. Now the challenge is keeping him from being too active, but I'm happy he seems to be feeling alright! He got a new cast this morning and it should come off next Monday and just be a soft bandage. I cannot believe how fast he is healing!

Osteosarcoma is associated with early spay and neuter (before a year) which is why I asked. 2.5 yrs. should have been fine. Unbelievable xrays. I hope all goes smoothly with his recovery. :hugs:

I'm happy to report that my big boy is doing great. He is completely healed from surgery and moves like nothing has happened. His fur is even mostly grown back! He has had 3 rounds of chemotherapy (carboplatin) and his scans all look great.

Unfortunately, prior to his 4th round of chemo, they noticed high creatinine level in his blood, which is a sign of kidney disease. Strangely, all other tests come out fine, so the vet is stumped. Her best guess is that it is caused by the carboplatin, so we are stopping treatment (he was only going to do 4 rounds, so she thinks 3 is probably enough anyway). He will go back in a month to re-test the blood and hopefully it resolves itself.

Other than the odd test result, he seems like his old self. He has always been lazy, and still is, but has a great appetite and seems happy and pain free!

Glad he is doing well.enjoy him.take loads of photos and videos so you can monitor his progress.

Expect him to drink a lot to help flush his kidneys though you could try cranberry tablets to try and help improve them.

This is what is so scary. Although I know the studies show it helps, no one is immune to this horrible disease. No mater what you do, sometimes life just sucks :(

On a side note, I am so glad to hear Brutus is doing better! Enjoy every moment and we will keep the prayers coming your way! XOXO
